so I applied regular decision to upenn and it's my first choice. i keep getting mixed messages about whether or not i'm qualified for acceptance. I think my essays were the best I've ever written, and my letters of recommendation were from people who know me really well. I got an interview, and it went extremely well.
I applied to the college of arts and sciences. What are my chances???

I say you have a pretty good reach for UPenn!
Consider retaking SAT? Your math SAT is good for average UPenn student, but you can always attempt to go above average to improve your chances.

that’s great to hear, but unfortunately I already applied and i can’t take the sat again. That math score was as high as i could get. But it’s nice to know that someone other than my mom thinks I might get in!

^^^^ She applied already, so I doubt the SAT retake will happen.

OP, don’t put much stock in the alumni interview- Penn says it’s informational only- as in, for you to ask questions.

Looks like a reach with those SATs, but who knows? You’ll hear soon.

Where else did you apply?

i applied to:
harvard
yale
dartmouth
USC
boston college
georgetown
UC Davis, Irvine, and Merced
Drexel

i was in the top 5% of applicants to be accepted at USC and i actually just got a dartmouth likely letter in the mail today so hopefully, UPenn isn’t too far of a reach?

So you are in very good shape, no matter what happens. Good luck- it’ll all be over soon. :)

You seem to have a decent shot at getting into Upenn. I mean you are in the pool of possible undergraduates for sure. All you need is a good personal statement; if that is good, you are in. But i still wouldn’t say that for sure as admission decisions seem just soo random. me
Chance me plz.

Being on varsity basketball, track in a class of <100 and student council are not particularly overwhelming EC’s. And with a 30 ACT and 3.74 GPA, I am actually impressed that you received a likely letter from Dartmouth.

Are you an URM by any chance? Or I guess it just goes to show you the advantages of applying from a private feeder school?. Your having applied to Harvard, Yale, UPenn, Dartmouth, Georgetown makes me think that you had some inclination that you might be attractive candidate to this level of school - meaning you obvioulsy felt you offered some unique qualities to these schools - would be interested in hearing what those may be if you feel so inclined?.

With a likely letter from Dartmouth, you are obviously a contender for Upenn (and who knows, perhaps even higher). Good luck.

I would have said that UPenn would be a reach for you but since you got a likely from Dartmouth, I’d say you have a good shot for UPenn. Like hinsdale I would also like to know if you are a URM? At any rate, going to a private school will definitely help for UPenn.

I am a URM. I’m Jamaican and St. Lucian, a point I made in my personal statement. I know my GPA and SATs are a bit low, but I expressed how basketball truly took up most of my time. Also my school doesn’t provide too many APs (I basically took all of them), and it’s REALLY REALLY hard to get A’s in those classes.

Also, I made sure to contact the assistant dean of admissions, and have been emailing back and forth with him since last april. I met him in person before i applied, so he could connect my name to my emails. I know he won’t just accept me because I had questions, but it can’t hurt right?

My work with One L.A. is really important and it really makes a difference in my community. I made sure that I told my interviewer about specific events and things the organization has accomplished.

@eak3225: could you tell me why going to a private school would help for Upenn?
@hinsdale1: my school isn’t a feeder school, most people who apply actually don’t get in.

Thanks so much for answering!

That would have been a good thing to mention in your original post. It ups your chances quite a bit.
