I got into Cornell a couple days ago
I really want to go to Penn or Brown
My essays were pretty good, I think recs were good didnt see them though

Wondering if I have a chance at all or if I should just assume I wont get it

I hate to say this, but dude - you're black. I know how much you prbly hate people saying that, but you have a good shot. Your grades are actually pretty decent, about average compared with everyone else. You might even want to try tackling the bigger Ivies.

But You should have had more leadership stuff, as I don't see any. Good luck!

haha, yea i know it is probably the only thing giving me a chance to get in, but whatever I guess.
thanks

you're in cornell with that? congrats. i wouldn't expect penn or brown but hey affirmative action has done some crazy things.

You'll probably get into Penn and Brown. Someone at my school (also and urm, got into brown with only a 1780 SAT...he also had like tons of leadership stuff). Also, are you being recruited for tennis at penn or brown? If so, then you are definitely in...

Congrats on Cornell by the way.

id say you have a lot better stats than some of the urm that ive heard get into even the bigger ivies. i think you have a really good chance. are you looking to play tennis in college? i hope you get in!

thanks for the replies, yea I'm hoping to play tennis. I decided to apply to Penn and Brown pretty late in the recruiting process, i was originally being recruited by wash u but I decided I didnt want to go there so I was late contacting the coaches and they already filled there recruit slots. But...both coaches said they would definitely want to meet with me if I get in and see me play so hopefully if I get in that will work out. Otherwise I guess its IM basketball :)

congrats on cornell! good school - i think, although you don't have much leadership in your EC's, that your focus and success with regard to tennis can get you in a lot of places. You clearly have a passion for it based on what you can see on paper, and you're also obviously really successful if you're nationally ranked - really solid hook

gratz on Cornell...lawl @ black kid playing tennis :P

yea thats what im hoping. I mean between playing tennis 2.5 hrs a day and working 15 hrs a week i didnt really have to much time to do a lot of other extracurriculars. Hopefully they will see that. Over the last few years there has actually been a pretty big increase in black tennis players at national tournaments. I was just at Spring Nationals in alabama and there were 6 other black kids there. I mean its still 6/128, but its an improvement i guess

I don’t see what’s funny about a black kid playing tennis. Have you heard of Venus and Serena? I know this is old, but I thought his grades and test scores were on par with Cornell. To say that the only reason he got in is because of his URM status is insulting.
