Chances for Yale and Columbia? (Class of 2019)

Hey everyone! I'm still a junior, but I was wondering what my chances may be for Yale and Columbia (trying to find which to apply early to, if my stats even stand a chance). I'm a bit worried that overall my EC's may be generic for my choices (esp. after happening upon some Harvard results thread with unbelievable profiles -_-). Any suggestions are totally welcome! (Also, sorry for the sparse stats and some maybe ambiguous things...) New to this, but I'll be chancing back as well (fwiw haha)

-SAT I: 2320 (CR: 760 M: 800 W: 760 E: 10), first time
-ACT: (taking later)
-SAT II: (taking later)
-Unweighted GPA: 4.0
-Rank: 10/801 (public; freshman/sophomore year); currently at university program (for science/math, while earning high-school diploma) for junior/senior year (unranked)
-AP: Human Geography (5), World History (4) (this is all I took freshman/sophomore years, not offered in new program)
-Current Courses: all university classes (currently taking Cal II, H Chem, Bio, English, Macro, Special Problems / Research)
-Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Siemens Semifinalist

-Other Awards: a bunch of state/region-level science fair awards, regional French awards & National French Exam (Certificat d'honneur - top 20th percentile), President's Volunteer Service Award (2x Gold, 1x Bronze), Broadcom MASTERS National Semifinalist (dunno if this counts for anything), probably National Merit to some degree (PSAT well above previous cutoffs)

Extracurriculars:
-NHS, FNHS, French Club, Latin Club (VP), Computer Club (Co-Pres), LASER/Research Organization & Engineering/Robotics (+others, but not as dedicated)
-Teen Court (attorney)
-saxophone (6+ years), currently studying under really famous saxophonist (trying not to disclose identity haha, but he played Carnegie Hall, studied under Dr. Eugene Rousseau (prominent saxophonist))
-no work experience

Volunteer/Community service:
-750+ hours
-Chair/Pres of a 501(c) non-profit (for 4 years; started at the program as a student 6 years ago): teaching students across the region about English and etymology (helped some kids into Scripps National Spelling Bee as well!); so far received $2k+ in donations

Summer Activities:
-Internship at local hospital, doing volunteer-research work (publication underway)
-Research in CompSci

-Research in NeuroSci (this was for Siemens though)

Other:
-Recs will probably be OK
-Hopefully won't be too nervous at interviews (haha)

Hooks: my brother graduated from Yale? (dunno if this counts towards anything or legacy or whatever)

Thankssss!

You have a very high chance  Your SAT & ECs are solid, your GPA is good. Don’t worry about it :)

Chance back?

No, he doesn’t have a “very high chance.”
Nobody does.
He’s qualified, but >90% of qualified applicants are rejected.

You’re qualified and have a great shot with those stats. But so do most of the other applicants for Yale

Thanks for the confidence boost and also reality check guys, much appreciated. I guess the matter will be more pressing when the time actually comes to apply.

Broadcom if i remember correctly is for middleschool so it wont count, but overall you have a strong applicaiton

Given that you’re unhooked, you’ve pretty much maxed your chances for being someone not an Intel winner, Siemens finalist, billion-dollar entrepreneur, etc.

Yale mid reach since your brother went there
Columbia low reach

You have a good chance at both. Your ECs are thorough, but as you said a little generic. Try not to fall too hard into the “Good Student Asian” stereotype, as it will be a lot harder to compete. Try to do something that makes you unique. Restore an old muscle car or intern at Blackwater. That will really set you apart from the ad nauseum of similar contenders.

You seem very well qualified, for both. You have a strong application, but you never know what admissions officers will think, I think they would both probably be a low reach

I think you are as qualified as an applicant for these schools can get. You’ll probably get into one or the other hopefully. These are always reaches so it’s hard to get set and be sure you’ll get in, but hey, you’ve got as good of a chance as a non intel or usamo qualifier could have.

My brother graduated from Yale too!
Btw nice SAT score. I hope I get that kind of score too!
