Chances for Yale? Just became Interested...

-Native American male(URM) from Oklahoma at a top 300 school. I dont know how. School never sends kids to top schools...one to Duke this year but that was a miracle.

-2100 SAT, 32 ACT-WIlLL DEFINITELY COME UP. I am studying very hard for the SAT...very hard.

-3.7cum GPA(3.5frosh year), about 3.8 from then on. Rank is iffyrobably top 4-8% if not higher

-AP Scores: All 4's and 5's, but no AP Calc or AP Physics. Hardest was probably AP Chem

-Only 2 years of a foreign language(terrible counselor advice), and math through Pre-Calc(not an option)

-ECs: I have three passions
1. Tennis-I am a nationally ranked tennis player at a top 10 junior club in the US. This takes up a ton of time, and I play on varsity as well-I have been the only player from our team to make it to state..ha we are terrible, but state is actually a big feat here
2.Volunteering-I have volunteered at nursing homes, the art museum, and with cystic fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is something I can relate to from a personal experience(I dont have it..) so it may be an essay topic. I have tons of hours from this...Cystic Fibrosis is a big deal to me.
3. I created my own small business. I buy art when I travel and online, and I have my own website and EBAY page that I sell art and make a good profit. I have made several thousand dollars since sophomore year. It's not virtually unknown either-Advertisements are in the urban magazines and the newspaper.
I am also VERY involved with the school student council, class boards, etc..Im one of the people who make things happen!

From previous chance threads, I know I have a good shot at some great schools. I am just wondering if there is anything I could do to boost my application at a great school like Yale. Like I said, scores WILL come up too!

You have AWESOME chances. Get your SAT up to 2200+ and I'd say you're virtually guaranteed in.

Thank you mj! That is definitely good to hear. I would love to get my scores that high...hopefully I can : /

Nate, stop worrying. I'd say you're in anywhere you'd like to go.

I know..what can I say-I'm a TERRIBLE worry-wart. I'm definitely a planner, so I am not one to really go with the flow..but I have to get over that in college admissions.

If it makes any difference
Economics major, Geology double major or minor

there are no minors at Yale.

I had a feeling...then definitely a double major? Or not..who knows

I think you can get in anywhere with those stats and background.

Thank you all..I really appreciate your time, feeback, and advice. Everyone that has posted from Yale is REALLY nice too...hm

^We are a nice bunch. : ) Come to Yale!

I will try my absolute best!

wow lol i think ull get in everywhere (most if not all ivies)

Do you think this is a competitive enough schedule? It is actually as competitive as I could possibly make it, fufilling the requirements of the state to graduate.
9th grade:
AP Human Geography-4 on test
Music History-Credit
Pre-AP Biology
Pre-AP English I
Russian II
Pre-AP Algebra I
Tennis
10th grade:
AP World History-5 on test
Leadership(student council class, community service, must apply to get in)
Pre-AP English II
Pre-AP Geometry
Arts Alive-stupid state requirement
Tennis
11th grade
AP US History-5
AP English III-5
AP Chemistry-4
AP Government and Politics-5
Pre-AP Algebra II
Tennis
12th grade
AP Psychology
Leadership
AP Computer Science
AP English IV
AP Environmental Science
Pre Calc
Tennis

I only got to take Algebra I as a frosh so no Calc senior year, Only 2 years of a language(**** counselor and scheduling), but I did take Leadership class every year which I hope shows some commitment with the school. Any good =(

Althought this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Doesn't matter i as I made the most competitive schedule I could throughout high school...

Your sched is fine .. as others have said, stop worrying, haha.

I'm always a worry wart.. I cant wait until my roomates at college meet me..

My understanding is that Native Americans get the biggest affirmative action boost of any group. Combine that with what sounds like recruitable tennis (you should check in with Yale's coach) and a good GPA and test scores and you have a significantly better than average chance.

I have heard the same thing...I just don't know about playing tennis at college. It will be tough for me to give it up, but I have always said that I will just play for fun after HS. =(

Well, don't feel obligated to continue playing competitive tennis. You have great chances even without the recruitability factor.

How much does SCEA help your chances in admission? If any?
