I'm looking to get into Harvard/ U Penn/ Yale/ Princeton/ UVM Med schools. Coming from Colby college (a top-20 school in the U.S. News Review) with an 80-something % record of getting peopel into med school, do you think I have a chance? I'm only a freshman, so I have plenty of time to prepare, but what type of stuff do you all recommend? I'm going to try to get some good, quality internships (Colby offers some very good internships). Where do you think my GPA needs to be ideally (a realistic ideal grade... hrmm, contradictory? lol). As of now, my Freshman GPA is probably around 3.7/4 (I have, as of now, a 4.2 [A+] in an upper-level Biology class, if that helps, am involved in a varsity sport, a club sport, and an a capella group if that helps either).

Anyhue, your help is GREATLY appreciated :-)

bumpedy bump :-); I mean, I'd just like to know if anyone thinks of Colby College (a NESCAC Liberal Arts College in Maine) as a college that can get a kid into the top 10 medical research institutions.

i hear colby is a really good school and with an 80% acceptance rate into med schools, it sound like your chances are pretty good lol. im sure they prepare students very well for med school or whatever they go on to. those are some tough top-notch med schools though, not saying you couldnt get into them, but you might want to bump your GPA up as much as possible, maybe around a 3.9. (hey, whos perfect? lol) medicine is fasinating, but being dedicated to that field requires a lot of sacrifice and work. if you havent already, make sure you ask yourself if you truly want to become a physician. if you know that is absolutely what you want to do and you have the drive/determination necessary, go for it. other from that, i would definately recommend a strong internship in a field youre interested in. i think med schools like to see well-rounded students, but not so well rounded that youre spread out too much. extracirriculars are great, as long as youre not drained or too busy to do what ya have to do to get the job done right. make sure you take all of the necessary courses and prepare extremely well for the MCATS. you sound like you already know all of this stuff though and im not much help am i lol.

Those are top schools. The average GPA for schools like Harvard/UPenn/Yale and others not on your list like JHU, Duke, and WUSTL is around 3.8 for both overall GPA and science GPA, and that's no exaggeration, that's from the official book. Average MCAT is somewhere around 33-35. It's pretty insanely hard, but that's why they have acceptance rates around 5%, sometimes less
