I have heard a lot about ECE at CMU and I am slightly confused as to the nature of admissions to the program. I have a friend that had a few classes at CMU over the summer and said their ECE program is starving and looking for strong applicants. On the other hand, I had a tour of the ECE department and they said it's one of the most competitive programs to get into in the school. Obviously I regard the person that gave me the tour's opinion with more weight, I just wanted to hear other people's perspectives on the matter. Anyway, here are my stats so let me know what you think if you can. Thanks.

Senior male from New Jersey. I attend an engineering- focused Magnet high school.

SAT's:
1st sitting: 2230 (720 W, 790 CR, 720 M)
2nd sitting: 2380 (800 W, 800 CR, 780 M)

SAT II's:
710 Chem, I am taking both Lit and Math II in October.

My school does a QPA system and I have about a 91.7 average (my school considers all classes honors or AP)

Decent class rigor: Junior year one AP (most offered, it was Chem and I didn't take the test), senior year 3 AP's (got screwed with scheduling and I'll be taking calc A/B, Physics C: Mechanics and Gov't & Politics)

I plan to self- study AP Calc B/C (I'm taking the A/B class), AP Psych, AP Lang/ Comp, AP Stats, and possibly both AP econs.

EC's:
I have pretty mediocre EC's that include...
Founder/ drummer of my school's house band and an independent rock- band
Co- creator of a tutoring program in math for middle school kids
JV Soccer for 3 years (I'm not playing senior year)
Officer position in a few school clubs that I don't feel like naming

I don't really have any awards or academic distinctions...at all.

Thanks a lot if you took the time to read this entire thing and thanks even more if you leave a comment.
