I applied RD, and I want to know where I stand...

4.0 UW
class rank: 1/392
31 ACT (but my math and science are good)
10 ACT essay
Subject tests: 590 chem, 640 math 2 ( I was not feeling good about these, and my stress stems from these, hopefully not having taken AP Chem before the test is considered)

Good engineering/science related EC's, lots of volunteer work
Founded a few clubs (math, science, engineering) our school is behind in the club department
Great essays, I mentioned a few professors I emailed with

So what do you all think? Probably a stretch, but hey, why not?

I had upper 5oo’s for chem (either 57o or 58o, I can’t remember) & I thin 69o or 67o for Math II. I was accepted under early admission. I think you will have a shot.
I think my saving graces were quirky essays (it was risky, but I was heartfelt) and the fact that my parents never made it to the sixth grade. Also, I’m a minority (Asian, though we’re almost the majority at CMU).

I’m surprised that you haven’t tried to retake your SAT II’s as the rest of your applications seems nearly perfect. I think you should let us decide whether your EC’s are “good,” but I’ll assume that they are as good as you think they are.

Due to the competitiveness of ECE, I think your application could really go either way. You’re more likely to admitted than rejected, but rejection is still possible given your SAT II scores. Hope you applied to other colleges/majors besides ECE, as you’re definitely competitive for anything besides SCS and CFA.

I only applied ece, but if I am rejected there, can’t I still be admitted to engineering ? I hope I didn’t make a mistake by only applying to one program… I also write my essays pretty quirky, and my common app essay shows my passion for technology through robotics… I hope I get in, we will see!

I understand you are looking for chances and constructive input, but did you not already post this about a week ago? At this point, these type of posts can be a little silly because it might come off as you are looking for a nerve calmer. You have already done EVERYTHING you can regarding your application. What is the point of calculating your intangible chances–is it going to have any bearing on your application? No. Sure, engineering especially ECE at CMU is extremely competitive, but it is not as competitive as applying to MIT or Stanford where we are talking about fighting against single digits…

Yes, you might have bombed your SAT subject tests, but so what? They are only a measure of your standardized test performance for only ~2 hours, not your entire high school career. I know plenty of people in CIT who wonder “How the **** did I get in…” As long as you show that you have some kick-ass character traits, strong passion, and a hard-working attitude through your essays and activities, it is possible to slide at this school with crappy scores even if you are not an underrepresented minority. I agree with xGlassChild. The worst that can happen is they say no, but I believe you will do just fine.

Yeah you will get in because have 4.0 unweighted GPA and 31 ACT is nothing to sneeze at but you are applying to CMU for computer and electrical department which is extremely difficult to get in so, you are in a 50-50 spot. If the people evaluating your app feel like it, you will get accepted.
