Does it look like i have a shot at Penn? I know many people make threads like these but I just want to know if I'll be able to get into the biomedical engineering at Penn and then apply to the dentistry school there.

Also, i know ED means early decision but why have i read on these forums that it can be quite an advantage to apply ED? Why doesnt everybody just do that then?

Any responses are appreciated, thanks a loooootttt.

You have some great stuff here, but I think both Penn and Cornell are reaches. No harm in applying, of course, that’s what your “reach” list is for. Cornell is probably a bit closer than Penn. What other schools are you looking at?

Try to get your test scores up a bit- for both of them you should be at least a 32-33 for ACT, above 2200’s for SATs.

Yeah not sure on Penn, but Cornell definately is a lot better ED, lots of higher chances doing that (check up on Penn too though).

GPA’s good for cornell, a bit shy for Penn though nothing too bad
SAT’s same ^^^^, usually Penn students I’d think have more in the 2200ish
EC’s are pretty decent, I feel that they’re kind of… ‘random’ and sporatic, but perhaps I’m wrong on this (usually people have very focused EC’s like all business or health or helping people stuff)
ACT’s kinda low, get these to a 33 or just dont send

If you’re doing biomed, a good idea would be to maybe do an internship or summer program to really show a focus into that. Your EC’s are proving otherwise unless you write a good essay pushing otherwise. But reach for Cornell… and a bit higher for Penn

ok thanks. im probably going to be doing a summer internship with some sort of lab work involved.

How exactly does Penn factor the GPA? because the unweighted I have listed there is what Purdue would take mine as (by using their own formula with just core classes from 9th through 11th).

And its not necessary for me to send my ACT score right?

GPA, rank, and SAT seem a bit low for those schools in my opinion, though your EC’s seem pretty fair. Also the reason that not everybody does ED are numerous, first of all ED is just that, an early decision, and you can’t consider any other schools you have to go there. Second of all because you have to go there they don’t have to compete for your loyalty and can screw you over in terms of financial aid. There are other reasons but I am kind of too lazy to list them :)

Your best bet is to get your SATs in the 2250/2300 range and apply to Penn ED. If you don’t raise your SATs, I think Cornell is still a viable option, especially ED.

ok thanks glass. tjkid you said “you have to go there” if accepted with ED. what if the financial aid package isn’t large enough for you but you are still accepted? Do you still have to attend Penn?

Many don’t ED because they need aid. It’s also not as big an advantage as it seems because they talk all of the athletes ED and the legacies which skew the numbers.

These are high ish reaches

Your GPA and SAT are a bit low for these schools.

Your ECs are fine but what are you going to center your application on?

Penn ED is your best bet

Chance back?

Good news everyone. I jus learned that Penn takes the GPA straight from the transcript and doesn’t recalculate like purdue. So mine will be around a 3.96 uw. My school doesn’t weight grades unfortunately…

If they don’t offer enough aid, you just say thanks but no thanks, and apply elsewhere RD.

thanks vossron. that makes me feel a lot better about possibly applying ED. we’ll c i guess

Dude, please. Have you really made two different threads for your chances at the same schools? I know you man, and that ain’t you.

yoyomama i wanted to delete this thread but I couldnt figure out how haha.

you know me?

He said the same on some other guy’s thread I chanced
