Great and a good family friend (active alumni) wrote me a wonderfully written letter if that matters.

So what are my chances ????
Im applying to the School of Engineering as a Biomedical Engineer.

Please let me know...... Thanks in advance

Everyone has a chance, but I don't want to be too encouraging since it's so hard to get in OOS. You really turned that GPA around and that shows maturity and smarts on your part that I hope the UVA adcom will notice too--they are pretty savvy though ;)!
Your SAT's are not great, but are within the competitive range. Your overall class rank could hurt you>>sorry to say. Rank is a real big deal. It shows how you compare to your peers. Four AP's are on the low side, particularly if your school is so competitive as you report. Most OOS students have about 6-11, roughly. You have to take the most rigorous schedule and show that you can do well in them. Do you think that you did this at your school?
You have some wonderful athletic activities to be proud of; have you contacted any the athletic offices at all? That might be a route for you to explore. Lots of maturity seen in your employment history too.
You've got +'s and -'s. Be sure to have a strong plan B as a back up. Best of luck.

the thing is the 4 AP's is one of the most u can take since only two are offered up until senior year and then senior year i couldnt take more than 3 due to scheduling conflicts so my schedule is the hardest possible

That's good, and should be reflected in you guidance counselor's report. Deep breath, it's gonna be OK. You'll have many options I'm sure come April 1! This is the worst time of the winter. Waiting.......

just curious chances out of 100% since i think very analytically (aka engineering major ??)

Oh, I just don't know, I fear that the OOS competition is so fierce as to diminish your chances. Have a strong plan B.

i've got plan b's but i didnt think my chances were that bad for UVA especially for the engineering department

OOS at UVA is soooooooooo difficult, and I think you've got some positives, but some obvious negatives as well. To get in OOS, most everything has to be positive--no baggage. You've got some baggage that the UVA adcom will go through with a fine-toothed comb. I don't have a crystal ball though. You are not a shoe-in, but not an out-right reject either---far from it. I say 70/30 with your chance of OOS acceptance being on the 30% side. Sorry to be a harbinger of yucky news, but then again, I'm a just a student with no crystal ball.

I agree with jimmyjam. You have the normal OOS chances of admission that are somewhere around 27% or so. It's tough. I agree, be prepared with a plan B. Every school, every town, every city, every state has their star students. It's a tough process. Brace yourself.
