chances of a good engineering college

Hey guys im sort of new to this but i guess this web site is pretty cool so i was wondering if you guys could help me out. i am trying to go to a good engineering school, mostly in the top 20 of the county in rank, and i was wondering whta you think of my choices based on my transcript, i am a junoir yet by the way, and an asian male in new jersey.

top: berkely, carnegie mellon, purdue, univ of ilionis....
middle/back up: ucla, uc san diego, pennstate......
i dont know about all colleges yet, but these are ones im looking at right now

gpa, 9th=4.0,10th=3.9, 11th= 4.1 overeall about a 4.0
all of gpa are weighted in my high school, unweighted i assume about 3.7 anyway i am in the top 10 percent of one of the best schools in south jersey, which is pretty competitve

my sats are right now 1800, and 1970, yea i know i screwed up twice, i actually score 2200+ but i had bad stomach pains both times, im taking i t agian in june and maybe october

sat II: 780 in math 2, im taking it again, along with chem as well,
as a junoir i am taking 3 ap courses, and i took one last year, next year, im taking 5 as a senoir

ec: i am a vice presisdent of a community service club, which has a great way of serving the poor by going soup kitchens and other places to help

i work as an officcer in my youth group at church
along with going on missions that had changed me dramatically

i am a co captin(next yr) on the math team which has won in my reigon every year for the past 10+ yrs, also i been the highest scorer of my school of math competitions and they are putting my name on the wall, such as AMC competitions.

i am hopefully in the honor service socity next yr

i have over 250 hrs of community service, dedicated to my church and the less fortunate, i aslo tutor this summer as well

i have been an intern at a college experiment during the summer and worked a sa labortoty assitant

i used to be in band, however my school's course are very limited and because i had to do elective requirements to graduate, i couldnt do it this yr

i am a co captin of the robots team in my school( next yr) and our team always goes to competitions and became 4th our of 45 schools, and hopefully we can make it to nationals this yr :D

and i actually dont know what else im goning to do this summer so hopefully things would be good.

anyway...thats my transcript so far, and i thank you all for reading it :)

1 - Bone up on the SAT this summer and take it again in the fall. That appears to be the main issue for the schools you’re looking at.

1a - Work on your spelling. It will be hard to reach 2200 if that post indicates your verbal ability. Just being honest.

1b - Leave the SAT-II math score alone, and don’t worry about the ECs and volunteer hours. Your important gap is the basic SAT score.

2 - You don’t really have a safety on the list. I think Rutgers is probably your best in-state choice for engineering, and that should be on your list.

Good luck.

NJIT is also a public school.

thank you, sorry about the errors i had to rush when i typed this so i didnt have a chance to reread it over. Anyway thanks for your advice, i think penn state however would be easy for me to get in though, i dont want to stay in new jersey thats why haha

i also was in the national merit this year for psats

I think PSU has tougher admission requirements for engineering majors. Best of luck!

thanks, i really hope to get into purdue, i heard its abit easier to get in for its acceptance rate is pretty high and hopefully being out of state could maybe benefit me as well

I meant that you need a financial safety on your list, either NJIT or Rutgers.

Except for CMU, your list consists of OOS public schools that happen to rank high for engineering in USNWR. In that cost range, you should also consider other private technical schools like RPI, RIT, Clarkson, Case Western, WPI, Drexel, Rose Hulman, Colorado School of Mines, Harvey Mudd, etc.

I would consider adding ga tech. OOS but still cheaper than privates.

Also consider taking the ACT. You may find that you do better on it than SAT.

oh i see what you meant whydoicare, tcnj and njit were schools i considered as well. thanks to all who also helped :)
