Chances of Admission?

OSU is my top choice of colleges. I’m a white female going into my senior year of high school, and I’m an Ohio Resident
Unweighted GPA of 3.54 (unsure of the weighted, they don’t give us that until school starts)
ACT: 28 (English 29, Math 25, Reading 27, Science 32)
Unweighted rank: 40/195 (that will go up when it becomes weighted)
I’ve taken three years of Latin, all accelerated core classes. I’m taking a college English class this year, AP Psychology, Pre-Calculus, and a Zoology course (along with band, a computer class, and a theater class)
I’ve been in my school’s Marching Band the past four years, I’ve been a section leader the past two years
I’ve been in pep band the past three years and I plan on being in it again this year
I’m in our Environmental Club, helped set up a monarch butterfly waystation, planted veggies in our garden to donate to a local soup kitchen, done a highway clean-up and a river clean up, and we plan on doing more this year.
I was in Latin club my freshman and sophomore year
I helped at a DARE Camp this summer and will continue to volunteer this school year
I was accepted into a local art contest for high schoolers (I didn’t win anything) and I was also accepted into a government art show
I plan on applying early admission (November 1st) and into the Art Education major
What are my odds on getting into OSU, and can you provide information about my odds on getting into the Scholars program?

In the student profile on OSU admissions page, 67% of the admitted students were in top 10% of the class and
middle 50% ACT range was 28-32 - I am not sure if this is for students admitted for Fall 2016 or Fall 2017, but it continues to get more competitive. So, with your stats, it is going to be a bit hard to get into the main campus. But certainly not impossible, so you should apply for sure. Your choice of major might actually help, since they get so many applications for engineering, business, and the pre-med type majors, and need more students with other interests.

You may want to consider the Marion branch. They offer a lot of awards that are not available to main campus students as well as offering an Honors program. If you might want to pursue a graduate degree or plan to seek outside scholarships for undergraduate study picking up these additional awards and transferring to main campus as an Honors student later may serve you better in the long run. http://osumarion.osu.edu/academics/academic-awards/

Since your ACT score is in the 25th percentile, and since your class rank is significantly lower than the average student, OSU is a reach school for you.

“Freshmen applicants for the Columbus campus are strongly encouraged to complete and submit all parts of their admission application by Columbus’ November 1 Early Action deadline and to check Marion as their alternate choice campus on the Common Application to ensure scholarship consideration at Marion if they are denied admission to Columbus.” from http://osumarion.osu.edu/students/financial-aid/marion-scholarship-information.html

If you haven’t visited any of the OSU branches but have your heart set on being a buckeye you should take the time to visit Marion. You’d probably like the praire nature center http://osumarion.osu.edu/initiatives/outreach/prairie/ the new science building http://osumarion.osu.edu/news/sciencebldg-dedication.html and it’s the closest branch to Columbus. Students here go down to main campus regularly on weekends for parties and games.
