chances of admittance to psu

my son's GPA is 3.18 (weighted is 3.89) and SAT scores are math= 690, reading 610, and writing 610. What are chances of getting into Penn State University Park? My older son is already there.

He will be a senior in the fall. Anything else he can do to increase his chances?

thanks

Penn State's admissions is heavily based on class rank. Don't know how they translate gpa into that if school does not rank. Do ask your son's GC how that is handled and what they feel his chances are with his grades. His SATs are in line. If he applies very early in the admissions season, he will increase his chances of admissions as things get tighter as the year goes on.

I have heard that PSU applications need to be out in September-October at the very latest.....they go strictly by numbers...there was a chart in the GC's office at our high school....the higher the GPA the lower the test scores can be...and also the reverse. Some of the schools(ie business) do have some different admission standards...the SATs and class rank need to be a little higher. My oldest and youngest(middle child wasn't qualified for main campus admission) sent applications out to PSU first and had answers early. At least that is the way it was last year and my d graduated from college in 05. Your son sounds fine. It is nice to have that first "yes." Good luck!
