Chances of an app developer with low SAT scores getting into a top university.

Hi!
I've attempted the SAT thrice, and have gotten the scores of 1770, 1790, and 1860. In SAT Subject tests, I've got 740 in Math level 2 and 720 in Physics. I have a 108 in TOEFL. I am an international student.

I have many a few applications for Windows, but have released only one. The one that I have released have gotten close to 20,000 downloads, and have been highly praised by established tech websites. I am also having a rich activity profile, and is also the head of the student government in my high school.

Will these positives that I have give me a possibility of getting into schools like MIT, Harvard, Stanford, UCB, CalTech or Carnegie Mellon for the major of COMPUTER SCIENCE or EECS? Should I bother applying? Which all could be the top universities that I have a higher chance of getting into?

Bump

You can always try to apply to MIT, stanford and Caltech. But your chances are low considering your SAT 1 score.
If paying application fees is not a problem for you, you should apply, you never know.

Carnegie Mellon is more plausible but still very hard.

You should consider some schools that are less selective, but are still excellent schools for Comp Sci :

Georgia Tech, U T austin, Purdue, UIUC, Maryland, Penn state.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS apply! Even if you think you’re going to get rejected. However definitely add some safeties as seen in the comment above. Good luck on applications! Don’t give up yet; you have a great EC so sell your application (do a Maker Portfolio about it for CMU and MIT) and don’t focus on the negatives of some scores.

But that in mind remember that international acceptance rates are always very competitive so pad up with some safety schools.

Good luck!

Your chances are even lower since you asked the same exact question twice in one day. Why do you do this?

Your SAT is too low for all of these schools. Be realistic and aim lower.

@mnm111‌ I thought I had put the post on the wrong section and put it here. I didn’t know how to delete the old one. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to annoy anyone in any way…

@TheJayRocker - your odds are low but perhaps your future potential may sway the odds in your favor. You’ll need to find some way to showcase your work in your application.

Only at CMU can you actually apply for computer science (CMU SCS). For the others, you will either apply to the college as a whole (Harvard, Stanford, MIT, and Caltech) or the College of Engineering (UCB). If you require financial aid, you should cross CMU and UCB off your list.
