Im still in sophomore year, but as early as now i want to know if i even have the slightest chance to get admitted into schools like Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton and MIT.
I'm Asian and i study at the best science high school in my country. However, i am not at the top of my batch. probably in the top 20% out of 240 but consistently in the dean's list. my grade now is roughly 1.5 (1 being the highest-5 the lowest). i don't know how you convert that to GPA. I have also been a class officer for the past two years. I'm in the varsity basketball team and the soccer club (there 's no varsity team for soccer). basically, im an above average student. but i really want to get accepted. i have two years of high school left so.. what are my chances and what else should i do to improve?

your grades, definitely. i think that's the most important thing and everything else comes after that. so that 1.5 thing should go up to a 5. make sure you're taking the most challenging course.

your ECs. start a club if there isn't one in your school. try to get leadership positions. work your way up. do stuff that you're interested in.

read! read books, magazines, website stuff, anything. this eventually helps you with everything.

the schools you've named are extremely selective. stanford doesn't give much aid to internationals. while it's good to aim high, you should keep some safeties. search for more colleges; you'll come across many more.

take the SAT sometime in your junior year as well so that you have lots of chances to repeat. this way you won't run out of time in your senior year. take a lot of sat subject tests, get great scores.

the good thing is you have a lot of time ahead. i wish my freshman/sophomore years had been better. while it's good that you're thinking about the future now, do not think about it too much. there's always senior year when you can worry about all these things. but yes, do try to improve the grades and eca situations.

At H., if you were and international and your grades were almost a "1", ranked in the top 5%, had 220+ SAT scores, reasonable essays and ecs, and didn't require financial aid, your chance would be roughly 1 in 14. But that's now. They would be worse two years from now.

Our core curriculum is already very challenging. imagine 4 science and 2 math subjects for this year alone, then add another 7 to that. thanks for all your help though. i have time so i can still improve. i'll keep your suggestions in mind.

b u m p...

ohh sorry about the 1/5 confusion... i read it wrong, i thought 1 was the lowest and 5 was the highest... embarrassed... in that case, just bring it up from 1.5 to 1. :) best of luck!

haha, that's okay.. will they also take into account the highest grade achieved by my batchmates? cos the top person got a 1.1 so a 1.5 isn't that bad. but i will try to improve that though. and can you give examples of schools that are possible matches for me? thanks again

can anyone give other schools that are a match for me? or other schools where i can definitely get into? i want to look at my other options
