So I am currently a junior at a very competitive high school in the western suburbs of Chicago. I have a GPA of 3.7 and although I haven’t taken the SAT yet, my PSAT score was 1270. As far as my course load has gone, I’ve taken AP U.S Government (A), AP U.S. History (A, in progress), and AP Microeconomics (B, in progress). Next semester I’m taking AP Macroeconomics too. Like I said. My high school is really competitive though. Standards are very high and A’s are not just handed out like at a lot of smaller high schools, and that’s according to a lot of the teachers. When I google IU’s average GPA, I get some mixed answers as to what their average GPA is. I’ve seen 3.64, 3.72, and 3.85. Which sounds right/closest? What do you think my odds of getting in to IU next fall are? For what it’s worth I intend on majoring in political science, will that help or hurt my chances at all? Thanks.
Anybody?
Take a look at the common data set for IU and that should give you an idea of the average that get’s in. I don’t know about the Political Science major but it would seem like you are a reasonable shot to get in at least to University Division. I don’t know if Poly Sci has a direct admit but you may want to see if they do and what their standards for direct admit would be.
Hard to say without knowing your ACT or SAT but honestly you should be good. Your best indicator would be if your school has naviance and look at their scattergram. The scattergram charts ACT on x axis and GPA on y axis and will plot the points of kids that were accepted (green dot) and rejected (red x). To get into Indiana you pretty much need to have over a 3.0 and over a 24. Not crazy selective, but it’s still a great school.
Don’t think anybody can tell you more than this https://admissions.indiana.edu/education/class-profile.html
If your HS has Naviance that is an excellent source as well.
Update: Took the SAT and got a 1200
