I'm a junior in high school and I know I'm not the strongest candidate, but I'd like to think that I have at least a chance at getting accepted. Some advice would be much appreciated.

GPA: 3.95 weighted
SAT: 2220
Chem SAT 2: 780 (Taking Physics and Math 2 in June)

I've been in track and field and cross country through all of high school. Throughout high school, I have been a board member of our Service Club, Math Club, Book Club, California Scholarship Federation, and Stock Market Club. I have been playing piano and guitar since middle school. I have also been practicing photography for about four years. I have 300+ hours of community service.

I'm planning on applying ED to Dartmouth because it it definitely my first choice college. But I've seen the acceptances of the people who got accepted in my school and the average accepted student had 4.3 and a 2280 SAT score so I'm feeling a bit unqualified. Still, any light on this matter and maybe some advice to better my chances would be helpful. Thanks!

Do you have a class rank or percentile? SAT is decent enough but it would help if it was higher. Dartmouth has one of the highest averages of SAT scores. If this is your first or second time taking it, I think you should take it again, either in june or october.

My school does not have class rank or percentile. This was my first attempt at the SAT so I’m planning on retaking the SAT and taking the ACT in fall.

ED gives you a significant boost which will compensate a little for the academic weakness a little. You have a fair chance, and ED is your best bet.

In my humble opinion, I unfortunately think you have a very little chance, due to low gpa. Usually ec’s can make up for a somewhat low gpa, but neither your ec’s not gpa are seemingly up to ivy level. Though you never know with the ivies!

Your GPA means nothing without context and your SAT is a little low, but I think that you have a fair chance at Dartmouth if you come across as very passionate about your ECs and community service.

I’m not number 1, 2, or 3 in my class but I’m confident that I’m in the top 10%. And hopefully when I retake the SAT in fall I will score higher. I’m very passionate about some of my ECs, and hopefully that will come across in my essays. Do any of you have any recommendations to increase my chances, if even a little? Thanks a bunch!

Hmm with that rank Dartmouth will be much harder for you. Not impossible, but unhooked applicants outside the top 3-4 spots are generally rejected. In your case, I think your chances are very low and that you may do better applying ED somewhere else
