Chances of engineering grad school with a low gpa

So, a few years ago I had a pretty good gpa but I went through some personal stuff and it killed my gpa, it took it to a 2.4. I know that’s pretty awful and I’ve been trying to build it back up but it’s not gonna happen before I graduate. What are the chances of getting into a geotechnical engineering grad program with that kind of gpa. I plan on taking the gre until I get my scores close to 160-165 each. Be honest, how bad is my situation.

Just about all graduate programs expect a GPA of 3.0 or above. Your best bet is to work for a time and take some graduate courses part-time to demonstrate your ability to handle the coursework.

There might be some that would take you if you were *near *a 3.0, but you aren’t. If you want to do grad school, @xraymancs is dead on - work for a few years and try to take (and ace!) some grad-level courses as a nondegree student. No GRE score is going to get you in in the short term.
