Chances of getting a scholarship to UD

General: White, male, PA resident, attend a private, academically rigorous, Jesuit high school.

SAT: 2050
CR: 680
MATH: 700
WRIT: 670

GPA: 3.7 unweighted (my school neither weights nor ranks)
AP Classes: Biology and English III Junior year (4 on both exams), Psych, Government, and Calc AB this upcoming year.

I also took 7 honors classes from 9th-11th grade and was placed in the advanced science track, so I took biology as a freshman instead of physical science.

Extracurriculars:

I've played in a band all 4 years of high school (drums) though I've never done the school band (screw Jazz anyway). I played Ultimate Frisbee junior year (first year the team existed) and plan to keep playing senior year. I did improvisational comedy club in 10th grade (first year the club existed) but stopped halfway through 11th because I didn't enjoy it anymore. I volunteered at a local hospital over this summer and did 40 hours of service there. I also went on a service trip to New Orleans which was worth 40 hours of service. I went on Kairos and am going to apply to lead a Kairos this year (despite openly being an atheist! Let's see how that goes :D). I've also organized shows for local bands around the area and have dabbled in recording as well (we had a music recording club but that fell through. My friend is planning on bringing it back and leading it this year, and if so, I'll definitely be a part of it again).

So, what do you all think are my chances? I can't attend without the scholarship money but my parents don't qualify for financial aid, and I've already decided its not worth taking out loans. Just to clarify, Delaware is my first choice by a long shot.

2020-2170 is the range of SAT scores for the honors program, so I’d say you have a shot at getting a merit scholarship but how much it will be worth may vary.

I would recommend calling/e-mailing admissions to find out more info about merit scholarships and what they look for. Their website isn’t all that helpful to be honest.

you can check out last years accepted students thread to see the stats of those accepted with scholarships.

are you OOS for Delaware and if so have you considered your in-state options in case Delaware does not give you enough money to make it affordable?

Yes I’m oos and have looked at my in-state and Jesuit options. Most of those people only got small scholarships though and have similar SATs it seems. My cousin, whose sat scores are significantly lower than mine (though GPA and extracurriculars are near identical) got 15k from Delaware (he ended up going to BC though). I’d need roughly 7k at least for Delaware to be affordable. I absolutely refuse to take out loans period, and would rather go somewhere else than do so.

well good luck I hope that you get the scholarship you need but remember that tuition goes up every year while the merit scholarship does not, so dont forget to factor annual tuition increases into your financial planning.

Since finances are an important factor its advisable not to get too invested in any one school. Also, Delaware notifies very late so you will be waiting til at least mid-March to find out how much you have been awarded.
