Chances of Getting into Cal Poly Pomona?

I visited CPP today, and I loved it. I want to major in Mechanical Engineering. Anyways, my grades are as follows:
9-11 GPA: 3.35
MATH: 4 Years
science: 3 years
language: 2 y
English: 4 y
Elective: 3 y
History: 3 y

SAT: 650 Math, 500’s other part

High School GPA: 3.43
SAT Composite Score: 1,068 (CR + Math: Yours is about 1150, thus it is above average)

Your CSU GPA is 3.35? ME is an impacted major so you need to be above the average in GPA and SAT scores. I think it is a High Match/Low Reach. You might want to retake the SAT or try the ACT since you cannot do anything about your GPA at this point.

Good luck.

I don’t think those stats will get you into an engineering major at CPP. Stronger SAT would help but, be sure to list a less selective alternate.

Engineering is all I want to do though. My grades have shown a lot of improvement. Started off as a 2.8 Freshman year, and ended up as a 3.8 last Semester of junior year. Does that count for anything?

Also, does CPP look at things like Comunity Service hours, extra circular activities, or any of that other stuff? Or do they just look at GPA, and SAT Math/Reading.

Like most CSUs, CPP uses and eligibility index to evaluate all applicants. Read about it here:

http://www.cpp.edu/~admissions/undergraduate/freshman/requirements-deadlines.shtml

Notice there’s no room in the formula for ECs, leadership, volunteer hours or anything.

A CSU GPA of 3.35 and an SAT of 1150/1600 give you an index of 3830 - that’s pretty good and will get you into most majors at CPP and most CSUs. Unfortunately, it probably won’t do the trick for Engineering at CPP.

A higher SAT is the only thing you can do at this point. 1250-1300 would make you a stronger candidate.

You should still apply because the applicant pool drives the threshold and you might make it in this year. Also apply for Chico, Fullerton, SJSU, Northridge and Sac

Does CPP use your 9-12, or 10-12 GPA? My 9-12 is 3.35, but my 10-12 is a 3.48

If you read the page i linked above, you’d know the answer to that question. hint, the answer is in italics…

How can you know your GPA for 12th grade?

Oh, it’s 10-11. That’s good news for me. I looked at the page, I just missed it. Thank you. And I meant that so far is is a 3.48.
