So I am currently a white male, high school senior and am looking to apply to Colby ED as my number 1 choice. Currently I have a 94.79 GPA unweighted (my hs doesn’t convert GPA to a 4 pt. scale) and my SAT is a 1320 on the new one. My reading is a 620 and math a 700. I am retaking this though to try to boost my reading score. By graduation I would have taken 6 AP classes and 4 years of a language. I have also played baseball all four years (although I am not very good), am part of my school’s Spanish Club, a member of Key Club and a member of NHS. I have about 50 hrs of community service and have coached a little league baseball team outside of school. I also work a job at about 20 hrs a week. Colby is my number one choice as I live in Maine as well and want to stay close. I have visited and loved it there and also plan on having an interview in the future. A teacher of mine also went to Colby and she and I have a very good relationship and she was enthused when I asked her to write a letter of recommendation for me. With all of this info I hope it will give a good idea of who I am and be able to give you an idea of if I could get in or not. Other schools I will be applying to are Lafayette, Gettysburg, Bucknell, and Bowdoin although I don’t think I stand a chance at Bowdoin. I am only applying there because it is free. I should also add that I am a first generation student as nobody in my even distant family has ever attended college. Also the list of my AP classes that I have taken are AP US History, AP English Lang/Comp, AP Bio, AP Physics 1, AP Psychology, and AP Stats. All other courses I have taken have been honors though. I have never taken a standard class. Thanks!
As of right now, I think your chances are limited even through ED. Colby is a very selective school focused around growing their diversity. Your credentials are great, however your reading and writing scores for the SAT could seek improvement. With ED I would give yourself slightly under 50% chance at acceptance, however if you show a lot of interest in the school with many visits and interviews, your chances will improve by a lot.
