Going to need a LOT of financial aid - parents make >30k/year

Also - any advice on how to improve my chances?

They don’t look at the writing very much. Would be good to have at least 1300 for CR - Math. 1400 would be better.

Try to apply for varsity in the sports that you are interested in. Colgate has football (soccer) and American football teams. I don’t think they have wrestling or tennis teams. Write to Colgate to show your love. Colgate’s teams are Division 1.

just found out that Colgate’s head tennis coach went to my high school and was coached by my coach which is pretty cool. Either way I’m definitely not good enough to play D1 in football or tennis so I don’t think that will help me a whole lot.

If you do enrol at Colgate do introduce yourself to the tennis coach, Bobby Pennington. I know him personally and he is a very interesting and likeable fellow.

I’m not sure if ED is the best idea if you are going to need such a significant amount of financial aid. I think many people underestimate the value of comparing costs and negotiating with colleges.

That being said, you have unique athletic ECs, I don’t know that many people involved in all three. Get involved in things you are passionate about, take on leadership positions if you can, and write good essays. Also, getting that SAT scores up couldn’t hurt, they are slightly below average at the moment. Good luck@

Thanks for the advice, and why would ED be a bad idea because of financial aid? @shawnspencer ?
Also I definitely will (if I do get in) @markham
