OKay so it has always been a dream of mine to go to stanford or harvard.
But my grades were really bad by freshman and sophmore year.
My gpa from those two years was a 1.9 because of family problems and laziness. it was never a question of whether I could do the work I just didnt do it
But I took the ib diploma anyway lol
My junior year I took
IB PSYCHOLOGY : A
IB MATH 1 : A
IN ENGLISH 11 : A
IB BIOLOGY : A
IB HOA : A
So far this year my senior year I have had maintained all Aâs first semester
my cumulative ACT score was 35 and SAT was a 2300 :)
Do you think I could get in ?? Not to mention I am being recruited by many schools for track and field having almost broke a national record. Thanks!
What is your GPA after junior year? Likely your only shot is if you are being recruited for track and field. IMO it is silly to get stuck on two schools which are reaches for pretty much everyone. Expand your horizons and you will see that there are tons of amazing colleges out there.
In all honesty, your freshman and sophomore year grades will hurt you⊠But numbers donât mean everything, theyâre part of the decision process. Obviously, they will be wondering why there is such a jump in your performance, and if you have explained that (the family issues, certainly not the laziness) somewhere in your Essays, and have bombed your interviews, there might be a slight window of opportunity. Best of luck to you.
Unfortunately, Harvard and Stanford have too many highly-qualified students with flawless records to accompany their scores applying. I would pursue the Track opportunities, look at some colleges that have automatic admission programs for high scorers, and then pick a few âreachesâ other than Harvard and Stanford.
If youâe a senior, it seems a bit late to be asking this but Iâll comment anyways.
Your grades from junior year onwards are great, but whatâs your GPA at the moment? Also I donât notice any ECâs besides track. Itâs amazing that youâre being recruited for almost breaking a record, but you need to portray this (and your family issues) in the most constructive way possible so that the admissions office fully understands your situation at the time. Be sure to explain, either in writing or during the interview, why your freshman/sophomore grades were low. I think if you add some ECâs and focus on becoming a well rounded student outside of school (getting your IB diploma with flying colors shows that you can definitely handle the workload, but you heavily focused on track and not much else), and ask yourself the question: How can I make myself a good fit at Stanford?
My gpa now is a 3.01
I donât know why I didnât mention my ECâs lol
They include:
Founding a program through my church in a urban setting which feeds homeless teens but also gives mental health screenings
Symphonic Orchestra
Running 4 community health fairs
Intensive Brain Research
Member of robotics team
I know this is no that impressive because i have been focusing all my time on volleyball and track
I think you realized way too late that you needed to get your grades together. Some UCâs only look at your 10th and 11th year, but for Stanford and HarvardâŠsorry to say, you have absolutely no chance of getting in unless you show A LOT of potential for track.
There are many people who have far higher grades, ECâs and merits and didnât get accepted. My advice is to not put your hopes on those two colleges because its about a 0% chance for youâŠsorry. If you show potential for track, some UCâs may be an option.
Joined CC just now? Well I will bite. 3.01 Is WAY to low for either of those schools
unless you are the next Carl Lewis or Jackie Joyner. Hopefully you have some safety schools on you.list
@JustOneDad, OP says he/she is a senior and has been recruited, see the OP. I smell fish.
