Planning on taking AP English, AP US History, IB Physics, IB Spanish, Honors Pre-Calculus, and Macro/Microeconomic Theory at Suny Binghamton.

I would really appreciate your feedback!

you should be fine. Apply and see what happens

yeah you’re good so far. what exactly are you interested in majoring in?

oh come on… you need to give us more details such as your gpa, SAT scores, or ACT scores.

I have a 95 unweighted average ( 4.0 on the gpa scale and that is the highest it can go because my school doesn’t offer anything higher than a 4.0).

thats good. but what are you interested in? law, biology, medicine, history? you have to show passion for something through your extracurriculars

I am planning on majoring in Economics and minoring in Political Science. And I am showing my passion for economics by taking college econ classes during the school year at Suny Binghamton and I am an Research Assistant at Suny Binghamton Economics department as well. In addition, i am interested in tutoring people for economics at my high school/college and possibly an internship at Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan. Is that good enough?

yeah thats great haha. so as long as you stay on track you’ll be a great candidate for harvard :P

Like what else would you suggest I do in terms of Extra-Curriculars because I am going to be extremely busy with the courseload I am taking this year as well as all that econ stuff I am doing. I am giving up the swim and tennis team and just doing NHS. Do you think that is good enough?

yeah, if you feel like thats what you need to do. you dont need to overwork yourself ya know? i think that’d be ok. just get yourself noticed. work hard in your extracurriculars. harvard likes kids that do a couple things they get far in rather than doing a bunch of bs clubs/activities. they can tell the difference. but get a second opinion.

Ok, i think just doing econ mainly and NHS is good enough. But do you have any suggestions for Political Science…I was thinking the UN?

yeah for poli sci i’d go with UN but DEFINITELY a debate team you know? its fun and it makes you a better speaker and thinker which helps a lot with poli sci. im actually very interested in it myself. also if you want you could sign up for your state’s page program and the congressional page program (the congressional one is for juniors) and its also competitive so it’ll be a nice addition to your resume. if you want more on polisci just go to the general forum for harvard and find the “Mentor Please?” thread, a lot of people gave me great ideas for polisci so check it out if you want :)

I am an intern at Merrill Lynch for the Spring of 2012…and a Research Assistant at Binghamton University’s econ department for the Fall of 2011. So the political science internship would have to be in the summer, and I was thinking of the US Department of State because they offer an internship program for high school students and plus the UN doesn’t have any intern programs for hs students…

ha i know im not harvard but that sounds really cool. anyways, i looked at their site and if you have time you can do the us department of state summer clerical program during the summer of 2012. which works out perfectly for you so you’re doing an econ and polisci internship.

Yeah but I actually found a program offered by the U.S. department of State that is better than the clerical program. But I think at the rate I am going I will definitely get in. Did i mention I got a 5 on the AP Euro exam this past year ( sophomore). Everyone on this discussion board said I have an “average” resume but they are going to be proved wrong!

go for it. prove them wrong haha. i sure think you can do it. but not every good harvard applicant started out amazing you know? they started out with a resume like yours but it built up over time. it takes time to be awesome lol

How is my updated resume for a possible Econ major at Harvard?

The “showing passion” part is looking great, but I was just wondering that, by any chance, are you an Asian? (No offense) XD

Lol I am, but I am from Sri Lanka…and I live in NY. Is what i am doing good enough for an Econ major, or what else could I do to make myself stand out for the Harvard Econ program?
