Alright, so I’m applying to IIT through CommonApp.
My personal background:
-Senior in high school
-Parents divorced
-Caucasian
-Male
-Lives in northern Chicago suburbs
For my ACT, I did really good in the math section but not so well in the reading section. The reading section has always kind of held me back. Here are my scores from my second ACT test.
Composite: 26
Reading: 19
English: 27
Math: 32
Science: 27
Writing: 8
I suppose I could take it again in October, but both my ACT scores were 26. The only difference is that I did better in reading but a little worse in all other sections the first time.
My GPA has been improving constantly ever since my freshman year. I had a bad start to high school, but I have been improving. My weighted GPA freshman year was 2.833, sophomore year was 3.28, junior year was 3.7. For all three years, my weighted GPA average is 3.25.
I’ve been in accelerated science classes throughout all my years. Accel Bio, Accel Chem, and Accel Physics. I’ve also been in higher level math classes for all my years. I am taking 3 total AP classes: AP Biology, AP Calculus AB, and AP Government. I haven’t taken any AP tests or AP classes in my junior year, but I will take these AP tests this upcoming May in my senior year.
My brother went to IIT and has already graduated. I’m not sure if this affects my chances, but I feel like it’s worth sharing anyways. One of the questions on CommonApp was whether or not a sibling went to IIT.
Activities I’d like to share:
-
I’m involved in Model United Nations. I did Model UN in my junior year and am continuing for my senior year.
-
I help run a club at my school (Anime Club).
-
I’m involved in the GSA at our school.
-
I’ve participated in R&D STEM Learning Exchange: Takeda Challenge
(For this, it was during my junior year in my Biotech Engineering class.)
