how is IIT overall? (campus aesthetics, people, social life, surroundings, etc.)

You shouldn't have a problem at all getting in, I got in with a far lower ACT score (25) and similar level of activities. Of course getting a higher score will improve your chances, just remember that IIT has rolling admissions...

As for IIT itself, just remember its a tech school and like most tech schools, theres a poor social life, unhappy students, and ugly campus. However, if you want a social life and you can't find one in Chicago with 2 EL lines going through the campus then you are pathetic and lazy.

Unhappy students - This applies to most tech school and I think its primary due to harsh course work and being too lazy to find fun (ie getting out of your dorm room).

Ugly campus - depends on the person, I think its fine, esp as theres been alot of renovation. Although the surroundings aren't very good. Interestingly enough the campus itself is pretty safe considering the location.

IIT is a very good place to get a solid education for engineering, math, and science. If money is an issue, IIT literally throws it at you, especially with the camras scholorship and financial aid in general. There are plenty of opportunities and a great surrounding city. At the same time, IIT is not a party school and expect to work hard for 4-6 years. The reputation of IIT is pretty mediocre considering the amount of work and difficulty. Getting in is easy getting out is another question...
