Chances of getting into my dream school

I am currently in 7th grade and even though college is still far off...... I think it would be good to know my chances of getting into USC if I keep my current grades up. My GPA is 3.89, and I am in an advanced 9th grade algebra class. I travel a lot so I am used to many different cultures. My essay writing skills are pretty good and I am very athletic. Im super good at basketball and I also play soccer. I am a good leader and very responsible. I want to go to a good school but want it to be a bit laid back and really fun. If you think that USC might not fit my personality please suggest other schools that might. Money will definatly be a factor as well, but I believe I will be able to get athletic and academic scholorships. also I might be considering med school afterwards....

Your grades don’t tell us much. USC (in Calif) really cares about SAT and ACT scores. So, you could have a 4.0, but if your ACT/SAT scores aren’t high, the school won’t likely accept you.

Also, for merit scholarships, super high test scores are needed. High GPAs are a dime a dozen. The very high test scores separate the “men from the boys.”

At this point, it’s hard to say whether you’d be good enough athletically to get a sports scholarship to USC. You’re probably too young for that to be evaluated unless you’re unbelievably spectacular and you already have colleges sniffing around you.

Your middle school grades (aside from high school classes you take) will have no effect on what college you’ll get into.

Come back in 3 years. In middle school, your odds of getting into a top university are identical to those of every single other 7th grader in the U.S. Your GPA right now is meaningless. The sports MIGHT help–IF you end up in the tiny percentage of athletes who are good enough to get recruited by a Division I school. Otherwise, they’re not much better than any other EC. The only thing that matters is the fact you’re taking high school math.

Your middle school stuff doesn’t count…
And you probably won’t know your chance at a Division 1 scholarship till you’re in Varsity Basketball
Oh and look at some more colleges, you’ll be surprised at how much your opinion can change in just one year (especially if you may be aspiring to play professional ball, or just college ball, or if you don’t like the schools that recruit you, or if you even quit basketball or don’t get recruited at all)

good luck & enjoy middle school
(march madness comin’ up!)
