I think you have a decent shot, your only pitfall really seems to be your SAT score. A 1690 isn’t the best and their average is 1750-2000 while all the others are 1460-1690 actually. If your essay is really that great, combined with everything else, it might make up for that.
Hey, I have this burning question. What’s the diff if I apply for mech eng direct or the undecided engineering. Will be admission chances be lower? Lots of people seem to go by the undecided route. If I apply mech eng, but don’t get it, will I be considered for undecided? Really confusing , any clarification is much appreciated
I dont think you should have a problem if you’re in state. If not, your essay and recommendations might just be the deciding factors
Applying undecided could increase your chances if you’re borderline. It doesn’t really have any other effect on your college experience, as you can take the same exact classes and enter your major at the same exact time.
Does it mean I enter University park as well? So the thing with undecided is that you do undecided and then transfer the intended major? I’m international btw. And there is no option for recommendations on the application form, so
I assumed they are non-existent. Dammit,
Looks like there’s a lot of things I don’t know about
Yes, you can be undecided at University Park. Here’s some stuff about changing from DUS to a major later on: https://dus.psu.edu/manual/alpha/change_major.php#from_dus . Recommendations are not considered (see http://www.budget.psu.edu/CDSRedesign/cds.aspx?reportindicator=FreshAdmn&Location=UP&AY=20142015).
Oh wow. Thanks. I think if that is the case, I may go with undecided and then after the 2 years, move on to mech eng. I’ll complete everything in 4 years right?
I mean, assuming you follow the recommended academic plan and pass every class the first time and whatnot (I’ve heard engineering described as a test of stubbornness, not intelligence – I haven’t had to retake any classes yet, knock on wood, but it seems common enough). Recommended academic plans: http://www.engr.psu.edu/AcademicPlans/ Specifically: http://www.engr.psu.edu/AcademicPlans/UniversityPark/ME.aspx
I apologize to the poster for the thread hijack
Has anyone heard back from Penn State with an admission decision? My daughter had everything in first week in September and has heard nothing yet! Website still says “currently under review.”
check out the PSU Class of 2020 Decision thread! lots of people have gotten accepted already.
thanks - will do!
What are my chances to get accepted to Penn State University Park for Hospitality Management? I also put I would be willing to do the Summer Session.
GPA: 4.05 Weighted 3.75 Unweighted
SAT: 1940
Lots of extra curricular activities
A lot of community service
Work Experience
Great Essay
I doubt you would have even needed summer session…good GPA, good scores. ^
Do yo happen to know when they would contact me? It was 100% completed a month ago. I have heard a couple people that have gotten in and I’m starting to get anxious
Apparently it can take weeks or months unless you’re at the tippy top of the heap. I don’t remember having that long of a wait but I had a 2330/4.0 so even if I could remember exactly how long it was, that probably wouldn’t be representative of most acceptances. Don’t worry, be happy, go do something fun to take your mind off things. You’re a competitive applicant.
The very best and the very worst applicants hear early. For everyone else, there is no rhyme or reason. You might hear tomorrow, or you might hear in January. I think your odds are good, but there’s no way to know when they’ll let you know.
