Chances of getting into Princeton, Harvard, Yale, MIT, Standford, etc?!?!?

What are my chances of getting in to Princeton (among others such as Princeton, Harvard, Yale, MIT, Standford, etc?!?!?)
Hey Guys, I am currently a junior and soon to be senior. For the class of 2009 who have already gone through the pains of college acceptance and rejections and for others who have college app experience, I was wondering if you guys can give me some advice? Here is me in a nutshell (includes the important stuff)

Harvard chances don’t look too good

Perhaps if you spell “Stanford” right then you may have a shot.

davematthewsxvii, why do you say so? can u be more specific?

Flipper519, your comment was 100% useless. Why not spend your time giving productive advice in stead of wasting your life? It is better for everyone and keeps the community more meaningful.

The chance of getting into any of those schools without a hook is about 3-5%. You are a reasonable applicant at these schools but the vast majority of kids with your stats are rejected. And you’re from an overrepresented state. Throw your hat into the ring with the other 20,000 plus qualified applicants but have some schools you love that are more likely.

hmom5, I like your point. Everyone who applies to those top schools are always amazing in their EC’s, Grades, and SAT scores, do u ahve anything in particular that I coudl improve on?

To me it looks like you have a good chance for some of them. I mean, I see people who go to those schools with lower scores and GPA’s. I even know a home schooled girl going to Yale next year. So, I mean, don’t be too confident, and find something different to do over the summer. Like go out of the country or something.

I’d say reach for basically all of them. Not saying that you’re a bad applicant; your stats and EC are great, but HYPSM is so unpredictable that there’s nothing really we can say about your chances. Good luck though.

^^ roy is right, but work on your spelling/typing and you wouldnt be at the top of applicants anyway because your ECs are so few. only 3 of them seem significant(yes Ap scholar and MNSF is common)

Take a look at the common data sets for all of your schools. For H and Y (the others are probably about the same) the 75th percentile scores are 790 for all 3 SATI areas. When you back out the 40% who are hooked at these schools, the majority of unhooked candidates have scores close to the 75th percentile. So 2 of your scores are low for an unhooked candidate.

Edging out the sal would also help. An overwhelming number of successful candidates at all ivies are val and sal, 40% at Dartmouth which is considerably less competitive for example.

And when you are in the rare realm of the ivies and very top colleges, ECs and how you present them are really what pushes you in. Something they see in you that’s truly unusual when stacked next to your highly qualified peers. You haven’t told us anything here that will do that for you, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something there. You need to find it and communicate it.

Great…except that you’re asian!
Can you post more specifics such as if you have community service hours and such?
Your EC’s are…well, nice but not unique enough. You need to find some way to stand out from all those other asian science whiz kids who also tend to play piano.
I would not take the SAT again, your score is definitely fine (Above 2100 is the general rule) and you can use the time for something else more valuable.
Make sure you get glowing teacher recs and write an incredible essay

EC’s wise, I think I am ok. My SAT scores need to be improved just a bit. I think I can push my SAT to 2300+ in october, just in time to apply for Early Action in some schools. If all goes well I think can get 35+ on ACT and 800 in math and Physics on SATII. I also understand that scores do not equal everything, I need to present myself in a unique way, something that I need to think about. Thanks guys :)
