First post on the site!! I am applying early action to Stanford. If I don't get in I will apply regular decision to Harvard, Princeton, and UPenn. I will also apply to Pepperdine, UVA, Willamette, and Arizona as my safety schools. I live in Montana, am a white male, live with a single mom (income of $45,000), and have a sister in college. I hold a 4.0 GPA (not weighted) and rank 1st in a class of over 700. I will graduate as valedictorian. I will graduate with my Full Diploma in the International Baccalaureate Program. I have scored a 32 on my ACT and a 2100 on my SAT (not as good as should be but ACT counters this). I am going to take the SAT II in Mathematics 2, Biology E/M, and U.S. History on November 3rd. I am a National Merit Semi-finalist. Early next year I will find out if I am a Finalist/Scholar. My extracurricular participation is as follows: Varsity Golf, Tennis, Speech and Debate, BPA, Spanish Club President, Young Democrats, and National Honor Society. I have over 200 hours of community service. This includes but isn't limited to: Elementary School After-School Scholars, Rest Home, Underage Teen Pregnancy Home, Underprivileged Youth Golf Scramble, Elementary Spanish Class, and Rotary Basketball. My letters of recommendation and essays on the Common App are all well-written. Thank you for your input...

Score is shaky for Harvard/Princeton/Stanford. Montana is a URS.

Harvard/Princeton/Stanford/Penn: Reach
UVA: Match
Willamette/Arizona: Safety

^noobcake (how ironic a username), if you actually read his post, you would know that he lives in Montana and he is white...

URS? Sorry for not being familiar with the jargon.

Under represented state.

I have to agree. You have a good of a shot as anyone (and coming from Montana helps), but like anyone will tell you, you never know with Ivies.

I also would never consider UVA a safety for anyone, especially with your stats. All the other schools are fine though.

Does the fact that four other well qualified students from my high school are all applying to Stanford early action as well hurt me? Each of the four has a 4.0 GPA, is graduating with their IB Full Diploma, has good ec's and service, and has >31 ACT or >2100 SAT (one of the four actually has a 2400) with solid SAT IIs. I am worried because I feel like Stanford will see us five and will only accept one to fit in their demographic scheme despite the fact that the other four are just as qualified.

That is an extremely valid concern, especially if your school does not traditionally send many students to top tier schools like Stanford.

I have the same problem. There's a guy competiting with me to get into Stanford. =/ Though, my school has sent a few people to good schools. We have twins at MIT, three or four people at Harvard, one with a full ride to Stanford, and I think we have someone at Cornell. I think he applied early and I don't think I have the scores to apply early... I want to get into Stanford too, but I only have an 1850. =/ I suggest re-taking the test. It can't hurt and I think you have a good a chance as anyone to get in. If perfect scores get rejected, then SAT isn't everything.
