I’m currently a HS senior from NYC and I really want to apply to Tulane University. I have a 3.7 GPA and my ACT score is a 27. I know they average ACT score is around a 29 so I’m not sure if it’s worth retaking or if I should apply ED
@Savannah319 - With your current score and GPA, your best chances of admission will probably come from applying ED. Even if you got your score up a few points, I think it still would benefit you to apply ED given the information you provided.
Also, there is still an ACT testing day on October 28 that you can take, while still falling within the ED deadline.
I thought 25th percentile of admitted students was 1400 SAT or 31 ACT. 75th may have been 1500 or 34. That still means that 25% of admitted students are below 1400/31.
Those are athletes and applicants with “hooks”.
Well, that’s admitted students averages. Enrolled student averages are lower with average ACT around 31 and SAT at at around 1400. That would make ACT 25/75 at 29/33. At that, a 31/1400 probably don’t hurt anyone if essays are good and ECs are good as well. Tulane enrolls about 25% of its admitted students. The 75% who don’t enroll might make that choice because either Tulane isn’t their first choice or find the merit or financial aid don’t work for them.
Tulane’s entering class this year has a middle 50% range of of ACT 31-34 and SAT 1410-1500. See, https://tulanehullabaloo.com/27262/showcase/class-2021-academically-qualified-diverse-class/.
If it is any consolation, I had a 3.2 UW GPA and got a 1360 on the SAT, and I am currently a student at Tulane. Your stats are not the end-all-be-all. Make sure you have a really strong GPA this semester, and you can try to apply ED II. Also, be wary that a lot of students that go to Tulane are from NYC, so try to present yourself as unique and diverse. I wish you the best of luck with your college applications!
Just got into Tulane! I had a 3.28 UW GPA, 3.76 W with at 31 ACT. From California
