Chances of getting into UPenn or Georgetown?

Hi! I’m a junior in HS right now who’s planning on either applying Early Action to Georgetown or early decision for UPenn for the class of 2025. I plan on applying with a Finance/Business focus in both schools. Both of these schools are reaches for me which is why I would like some input. Please read everything because I really just want to know if I even have a shot. Thank you!

Subjects I am taking Junior year and my grades so far (predict they will stay the same for spring semester):

  • Bio 2: A-
  • Spanish: A
  • Strings Ensemble: A
  • History: A-
  • English: A
  • Pre-Calculus Plus: B+

Current GPA:

  • 3.92 (unweighted) - my school doesn’t do APs just advanced courses
  • Top 10% of my class

Standardised Test Scores:
ACT is a 32 superscored - english 29 math 33 reading 33 science 31
Plan on taking AP literature test because WHY NOT and also math 2 subject test

Extracurriculars/Volunteering Experience:

  • Started an online tutoring business which helps kids from lower income households get access to free tutoring
  • Invited to attend the summer Georgetown National Student Leadership Conference program
  • An Athena Leadership award recipient for acting courageously (I do a lot of community service with this organisation)
  • Have played in an outside of school orchestra since 7th grade - currently 1st violin in a women’s orchestra
  • Lived in 4 countries: Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, and U.S. (currently in U.S. now)
  • Signed model to Known Model Management (have been on the Vogue website)
  • Accepted into New York times summer program

Other general statistics:
First Generation in U.S.
Attend a prestigious competitive private school (but not feeder) and have received financial aid from them
Asian Female

Also extra things about me that I might include in my essays which differentiate me:
Basically, when I was in middle school I had a youtube channel for Minecraft (do not make fun of me) and I grew it to 5k subscribers in 3 years - It shows I know how to get what I want and have initiative to start stuff. I have around 350,000 total views on my channel.

Now, I have a Depop online shop. I buy and resell clothes for a profit. I reinvest my money into buying clothes to resell which shows I already financially aware of how to not just save but grow my money. I have made over $2000 total profit from this.

Wow! I think you certainly have a lot of unique, nontraditional elements to your application, which should help you. I think you certainly have a good shot at applying to UPenn or Georgetown early, but obviously have safeties. Also, since you’re applying with business in mind, your depop and modeling activities should definitely help in this aspect.

You have very unique ECs which gives you a shot but it will definetly be unlikely with those stats because Wharton and Georgetown are two of the most selective institutions in the world.

Georgetown University admissions provides a very thorough & detailed description of all of those recently accepted into each of its schools. This should help you to determine your odds for admission to Georgetown.

If I get an A- in my math class do you think that improves my chances?? Also thinking of taking the SAT again. If I end up getting 1440+ which is a 33 act score conversion do you think I stand a better chance???

Yeah. I read that applying early decision to UPenn doubles your chances of acceptance but for georgetown the rate is the same (surprisingly). I think im just gonna go all or nothing with UPenn to be honest.

Hi! I have checked out Georgetown’s website many times and I never saw this page. I only saw the page where it shows the acceptance rate for each year. Do you think you could drop the link??? Thank you!

I saw the link last week in a College Confidential post involving Georgetown admissions. Georgetown University thread: “Can I get into Georgetown ?” posted 4/9/2020.

The link was posted by @SJ2727.

(doesn’t work try other thread)

I think you have a chance at Georgetown. That said, I think your grades are the weakest part of your application, based on my experience at Gtown.

I would talk about the tutoring program you run rather than Minecraft or Depop, as neither of those will look super good to Georgetown. If you are applying to the SFS, talk about living abroad.
