My class rank is 31 out of 331( Just barely shy of being in the automatic top 9% admissions). I scored an 1840 on my SAT. 720 math, 600 critical reading, 520 writing. I am taking the SAT again in October to hopefully raise my reading and writing scores. I am trying to get into the jackson school of geosciences at UT. What do you guys think my chances are? I am just so anxious to see if I will get in. I am nervous about it because I only took 2 years of foreign language ( UT recommends 3), I'm not in the National honor society, and I have a small amount of volunteer hours. I'm sports editor and in math, writing, and key club. Thanks

Anything??

Are you a resident of Texas? If so you should probably get in based on your current SAT scores.

Yes I am. Thanks for replying

Is only taking 2 years of a foreign language a big deal? My friends were telling me it was

Only taking two years of a foreign language is probably not a huge deal. Really, class rank is the ultimate decider but if you are out of top 8% but have awesome SAT scores it really helps (depending on which school within UT you want to go to)

Alright thanks for replying

Don’t worry about it, you seem to have a good chance.

Thanks I definitely feel a little better about it now. Sorry I’m asking so many questions but how long should it take to get a decision? My application was complete Sept. 22. I’ve been told it takes 2 weeks or so for automatic admits and I’m just one spot away from being in the top 9%, so what do yall think?

Does your transcript to UT provide an exact rank or as a percentage?

Lot of people wait three months to find out. So chill.

It gives my exact rank

@longhorn12; Unfortunately, your class rank is outside the 9% cutoff, so you will not be offered automatic admission. Automatic admission is offered within a day of UT receiving your completed file as the computer determines your % rank and offers UT admission accordingly.

That doesn’t mean you won’t be admitted; your application will just go through the holistic review process for both university admission and for your desired major.
