Chances of getting into UW?

I’m asking this because I have something I like to call a “tricky” transcript. I know that I don’t have to send it in until I get accepted but I just need to know some info. My sophomore and junior I wasn’t able to participate in school fully because of my absences. My sophomore year I was homeless until the May time frame and I wasn’t able to attend school because I wasn’t in a school distract for a certain amount of time. I was jumping from one homeless shelter to another. And my Junior I was absent because I had a cancerous ovarian tumor which wasn’t diagnosed until April. However I did manage to make up some classes in summer school, and I’m a duel enrollment student so my CC grades replace my old grades.

So far my GPA is a 3.2 (not counting senior year) and my CC GPA is a 3.8. I got a 1850 on the SAT with the essay. I’ve also done A LOT of community service involving homeless shelters, and working at domestic violence shelters. Will my absences play against me? Will my CC GPA help me in any way ( I have a total of 16 credits so far for the fall term)?

Did you explain your special situation in your application? If you explain it well, it will enhance your chance!
Good luck!

I agree with the above post. If you can nail out a really good essay about your special circumstances, it will definitely help. Also you didn’t mention if your in-state, but that will hope. I wish you the best!

In response to the others, if you can explain this circumstance it will definitely strengthen your application. Their admissions department seems very open to academic challenges as long as you explain them in your application. Make sure you meet their CADRs (http://admit.washington.edu/Admission/Freshmen/CADR) or explain why you don’t in the application. I would also include why UW is so important to you and why you think you’ll be successful there so the college has a better picture of your potential for future success as well.
