I’m a freshman here but have, for now, set Yale as my top university attend. I have completed up to one semester with a weighted gpa of 3.81. I’m taking two AP classes. At the school I attend, I take the act practice very often and have taken it about 3 times this school year. The highest score I’ve gotten has been a 24 which is, uhh, very low. I am looking forward to taking two courses over the summer at a local college. I plan on fixing what I have messed up on and getting a 4.0 or higher from now. I fear as my first semesters gpa will negatively affect my twhole college record. I plan on joining track his year and creating a debate/pollitical next school year. Can you let me know what can help me and how to stay on track to look good for admissions? Thank you.
( i meant my weight was a 3.81 and I’m taking two pre AP courses this year. )
You need to improve your GPA and improve your ACT ALOT, like lots aim for 31+, to be given a shot, not necessarily a good chance with 31 but a chance, a comfortable score for act would be a 33 at top universities. Just study alot and learn the test not necessarily only the content. You also dont seem to be heavy on ECA’s or any accomplishments. Though this sounds rather negative you need to find an idea on what your actually going to have on your CV, like maybe your the president of two clubs, you have a published book, you play varsity basketball, you entered a robotics competition, you interviewed the president, stuff life that, you need to make yourself seem unique and smart, the first impression i get from reading that is that your not capable of partaking in th elevel of academics at yale and that there is really nothing making you stand out, you just went to school and did what was asked, your not what were lookign for. SO study study study for ACT, and have a plethora of unique achievements and experience you have. if you’d like you can view a “what are my chances” thread if you want an idea with what im doing, and i still need to improve.
Why is Yale your dream school?
Make sure that as you continue your college search in later years you fall in love with your matches and safeties just as much as you love Yale. The chances that you’ll end up in them is much greater.
Also, if you get better grades later on the freshman bad grades won’t hurt you so much- the improvement will strengthen your app
If you are a freshman in high school, it is easy to understand why your best practice ACT is a 24.
Don’t fixate on a single school, you’re just a freshman. If you concentrate on doing well now, the future will bring more options and opportunities.
Focus on your grades and figure out what you love to do when you’re not doing academics. Read a lot, write a lot, find some good friends who also like to think.
Two AP courses freshman year is an awful lot.
