Chances of getting off the SUNY New Paltz waitlist??

I applied February 16th, then my application fee waiver didn’t get accepted, and didn’t get payed until around March 20th. My family was short on money at the time but we WILL have a LOT more in the near future, this is relevant.

I got waitlisted. 85/100 GPA (UW and W are around the same, there might be a point’s difference), 1850 superscore SAT (1200 CR & M), 27 ACT, tons of extracurriculars, applied kinda late to make sure my senior year grades were perfect. dumb decision. I got waitlisted at Geneseo too, but got off that waitlist in an astounding 5 days. I got waitlisted on April 13th and now it’s the 18th, so it’s been about 5 days. whoops. I did ask for aid on my application, but my family has a huge asset that we’re liquidating soon- not going into detail, but that would GREATLY reduce my need for aid for the first year or two- I hope to get really high grades and hopefully get some aid based off my grades by the time I’m a sophomore or junior, but right now I just want to get into the school. My GPA is so low because I struggled a lot in the earlier years of high school; I used to have an IEP at my public school, went to private school, and it wasn’t available to me anymore- that was probably a huge mistake.

My school has sent students with stats like mine to New Paltz before, so my guidance counselor could send an email advocating for me. Would not requesting aid help much? I plan to find scholarships, work through school, get merit later on; anything I can do to make college a bit more affordable, but I think my family can afford a SUNY school without much aid.

Even without doing that, what are my chances of getting off the list? I’ve already told the school that they’re my top choice (I only told them today, my mom kept the waitlist letter hidden from me until last night, so I could close out my senior year musical without being worried about being waitlisted.), and told them that I have absolutely fallen in love with the school.

PS - I’ve also had some major extracurricular achievements since I applied; not only did I play yet another lead role in a school show (which would help, since my intended major is theater), but I performed with my choir at CARNEGIE HALL. Maybe THAT’S worth mentioning??? (unfortunately my 3rd quarter grades aren’t that great but I have the rest of my life together, apparently!)

FWIW, my brother got off the waitlist very quickly with a 1500 SAT (out of 24) and a 90 gpa. I assuuuume you’ll be okay.

Let you GC advocate for you. You can also send an email saying all your new achievements, your continued interest and, if true, that you would go if taken off the list.

At a SUNY, are you in state? I’m not sure full pay means much to them, as they probably are not stellar on FA. And if your income is low enough, you’d get pell, and that doesn’t come from SUNY. I’m not sure it is worth mentioning, but ask your GC. Let her read your email first.
