Well to start off I am a DACA student (overstayed my visa, I came with my family when I was seven yrs old.)
In high school i learned of my citizenship status, i pretty much tried to assimilate myself with the white suburban lifestyle that I was surrounded with. I didn’t do well in high school and ended with a 2.8/4 gpa. I played sports during junior and senior year: cross country and outdoor/indoor track.
Because of my financial situation and grades the only option I saw was going to community college even my counselor said so. I put my best foot during the time and ended my associates of liberal arts with a 3.72 and a Phi Theta Kappa honor.
Now I would like to major in neuroscience and follow that route all the way to medical school but i don’t know if that is possible. I know there are a lot of restrictions regarding financial aid so a lot of people on my situation have to choose need blind aid colleges. thus theses colleges are usually ivy’s and top schools.
I took the SAT in high school and they were pretty low but im taking them again by the end of January so i can apply for Fall admission 2015.
For extra curricular i only took math and chess club for a semester in college. the rest of the time i help out my father in his painting job, we are a big family and i have four other siblings that are already in high school. I shoulder the self responsibility to show them that higher learning is possible but I doubt myself from time to time.
If anyone can give me some sort of advice of my chances to a top school that would be appreciated.
so far my run down of choices are:
Harvard, John’s Hopkins, Pomona, Amherst, BU, Dartmouth, Tufts, UNC Chapill Hill and Brown.
I know a lot of top tier schools listed but Im going through this process not counting with my parents to help pay because my family isn’t really connected and my siblings time is coming for them to go to college, I don’t want all the little school money that can be made to go to me only.
