Chances of USC Film School

It sounds cliché, but USC film school has and always will be a dream of mine, and I know it’s a reach, but I wanna know (as the title of the forum says) what my chances are.

GPA: 3.64
ACT: 30

Taking AP Lit, AP Psych, Forensic science, precalculus this year, as well as being a teacher’s assistant for a TV production class and being an editor for my school’s newspaper.

I have glowing letters of rec from my teachers, as well as a creative submission that is one of the best films I’ve ever produced. I also have an essay that several teachers have told me is one of the best they’ve ever read.

Let me know what you think my honest chances are. I know for the film school it’s much different than business or engineering or something but I know I have to stay realistic. Thanks!!

I would raise the ACT to at least a 34 if I were you

@kookypen17 USC does use a holistic approach so if your films get their attention there is always a possibility. You know it is competitive with about a 6% acceptance rate so it is a challenge. Check some of the many USC threads for more info.

Can you afford $72K per year???

Depending on the pursued major within SCA, the admit rate is circa 2-10%. Production is around 4% I believe. Admission to SCA will likely come down to your writing ability, demonstrated passion and all of the elements of creative expression shown through your supplements. That will be challenge one… getting SCA willing to pull for you. The second challenge will be gaining admission to USC overall. With your current stats, that me be difficult, as the overall admit rates has now fallen to circa 13%… and your current academic record/stats will likely be insufficient, absent some other compelling reason to consider you for admission… i.e. excellent essay(s), motivating Why USC explanation, unique or interesting other elements to your background / experience, ECs and leadership roles, etc. It may simply come down to the subjective opinions of one or two key evaluations within SCA and whether they lobby USC admissions sufficiently and hard enough to let you in. But you will clearly never know unless you try. So apply and give it your best shot. Good luck…
