Chances for USC-SCA Film and Video Production

Hello!! I’m just currently stressing out about colleges and Senior year and everything in between. So I’ll just give you a few stars about me:
I am currently a Junior in a Medical-Based High School.
My GPA Unweighted is 3.9 and weighted is ~4.3.
I have recently taken SATs but I haven’t received my scores( I know they were mediocre, it was my first time and I completely bombed the math portion)
I was in NHS AND CSF during my 10 grade year.

I was also Junior Historian in my schools HOSA club this year( I was in the club for a total of 2 years so far 10th and 11th)

Next year I will hopefully be a College Peer Counselor and will re join NHS and CSF and hopefull create or join a Film Club at my school.

I was also in my schools Leadership class.(no position).

I am currently taking 2 AP classes and I intend to take 2 more next year.

I am taking 1 College class at my local community college(English 101). I will take at least one in the summer, either Political Science or Film Appreciation or both. Then my senior year I will take a science or history College Class.

I have real passion for films, I LOVE movies and I really want to someday create them. I have never had any experience in film making so I know making it into USC SCA is a reach, but hey, it’s worth a shot.

I am really writing this post because I just wanted to know how other objective people think I stack up against other undergraduates. Be Negative. Be Positive. Just help me figure out the steps I need to take to have the best chances at getting into USC SCA as an undergraduate in the Film and Television Production Major.

Anything will help. Personalized Tips. Secret hints. Or anything to help me.

If you made it this far Thank You for reading.

With 4% acceptance apply to USC but have solid backups that you would want to attend as well. Having a dream school can turn into a nightmare come April of senior year. Love and be open to as many as you can. Good luck, deep breaths, relax, and do your best.

I would only add that Cinematic Arts is considered a talent major, so in addition to stats, a lot of weight will be on your portfolio. If possible, use the summer to work on portfolio pieces – especially one that demonstrates a mastery of storytelling. Good luck!

My D is a junior with your same aspirations. USC SCA is her goal scenario, and she is anxiously waiting for the fall so that she can officially apply and then learn her fate. Clearly, with acceptance rates in the 4-6% range, even the most qualified applicants should balance out their dream school reaches with a # of other back-up schools.

Good luck…
