Japanese VI (not usually offered at my school-taken through special arrangement)

(My math/science placement was messed up the past, but I'm fairly good when it comes to anything but Geometry.)

The Japanese program at my school is very well regarded. The teacher is on the AP board, and we frequently dominate speech contests and regional Japan Bowls. Last year, a team even won nationals!)

Oh, and my grandfather's an alum if that matters.
Thanks.

What do you want to go into. I say those are good enough to for sure in anywhere, even Engineering but I never say sure on engineering. I say you should (& will, just saw the alumni) definitely get in. But still what do you want to major in? B/c that is important since you will be applying to a major unlike many other colleges.

A top 2% class rank and 33 ACT is fantastic for UIUC, so it's a safety for any major except possibly Engineering.

I want to go into some sort of health care science, so I'd probably major in biology and then minor in Japanese. I'd apply to LAS.

Does a grandparent legacy really count?

Thanks for the feedback!

With your stats, UIUC LAS is a safety, especially because UIUC treats out of state students the same. What other schools are you looking at? I would also suggest Northwestern, University of Chicago, and Michigan if you like the midwest.

Apply to bioengineering, and to another major in case you do not get in to that. Bioengineering's percentiles are 1480-1600 SAT and 33-36 for ACT. There are only 25 students in the program.

Applying for bioengineering is questionable; it is one major where in-state students will be highly favored over out-of-state for the next several years as the funding that established the new bioengineering program came with that condition.

I was unaware of that.
Source?

It doesn't really matter since Bioengineering is the only major where you can specify an alternative major in case you are not admitted, since the standards are so high due to the limited initial class size.

you should have no issues getting in. my stats were about the same as you. just make sure that you apply before that november 1st deadline or whatever date it is. that significantly increases your chances of getting in because it shows that you're serious about the school and are on top of things.

actually i'm going to just say it:

you will FOR SURE get in. my high school EVERYONE in probably in the top 25% of our class gets admitted to illinois. engineering majors-wise as long as your in the top 15-10% of your class and/or have a high SAT/ACT (with maybe a top 25% rank) you will get in.

biomedical engineering was actually guaranteed by several of my friends who actually applied as biology majors (they were probably in the top 5% of my class, but ACT's 27-30)

I sent in my app this weekend and will give my counselor the counselor sheet tomorrow. I hope the news (when I get it) is good.
