I will have GREAT recommendations + essays!

I just want to know my chances

Bump................

It's good that you have a high GPA and low test scores, because that's how you want it.

But a 21 on the ACT is just too low. And your GPA isn't real high. You are in the bottom 25% of all applicants, and you are OOS.

Unless you get that ACT to a 28 or above, you won't be getting in. As of now, less than 5% chance.

what's the difference between out-of-state and out-of-country?

Hmm....get your ACT up and I'd say you have a good chance.....UM is always looking for african-american males. Your high GPA will def. intruige them...and by the way...I'm a black male here at UM, so feel free to ask questions.

If you can get a better equivalent score on the SAT or get your ACT up to a 26, I think you have a decent chance.

HGTrumpet, you need to get that ACT up quite a bit. You will be given special consideration because you are a URM, but you still need at least a 26 on your ACT if you want a decent chance of getting in.

Yeah I gues it is really just the ACT score. Study hard for it and try to get 30+. And if you get a 32 (the great ACT scholarship cutoff) you will be WAY better off.

Alright, I'll work hard! I am taking the SAT in Oct, which I've never taken. I'll major in Philosophy, but if I can, I'll major in both Philosophy and Music. I am not sure if there is some sort of dual major program available.

No one can give you mathematical chances.

It's not just being a URM, it's the fact that you're also first-generation college student. Under Michigan's holistic review, those kinds of factors matter, too. Which is why Michigan asks!

If you apply to the music school, it's your audition that will carry a lot of weight. If you apply to LSA, it's different, but the fact that you've maintained a challenging set of music extracurriculars will be a plus.

Michigan's Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs is a trumpet player, incidentally! He's always using music example and metaphors when he talks. Wonderful man.
