"math team for 6 years

What competition is this?

the mu alpha theta convention.

hmm ya we own math league at our school...u went to hawaii?

yea, it was an awesome trip.
do any of you guys have any ideas of what my chances are for the schools i listed? i, like many other seniors, am going through that freaking-out-about-college phase.

do u have any SAT II's, BU requires two with SAT I

o yea. my bad.

SAT IIs
Math-740
Biology-670

ya BU im sure u are aite with, assuming ur school is fairly decent. They look at how challenging your school/courseload is.

Im not really sure about alabama schools, im from NY outside of NYC, so its prob diff up here.

thank you so much for your help. do u have any ideas about the other schools. if not, thats perfectly fine. thanks again.

chicago is probably a significant reach for you, vanderbilt and emory i feel are slight reaches to matches...

im saying this because ur SAT scores are pretty much within the avg for vandy and emory, but ur EC's dont have much that stands out, and idk bout ur school and curriculum. Work on ur essay and make it stand out, and im sure ull be ok

what do you want to major in? And any leadership positions?

i want to go pre med
im kinda lacking on the leadership
im a camp leader at the place i volunteer at
i hold a position in NHS. not an officer or anything but one of the head people in a comittee inside NHS

If you're really interested in UChicago, which is the highest ranked on your list, retake SAT and/or apply early to it. Otherwise, I think you're okay BU, but if you like vandy or emory better, look towards early admission if they have it because it'll really help you.

thank you so much for your help. i'm retaking the SAT and hoping to get above a 2100. will that change much? thanks again for your help

Well, according to my viewbook from UChicago, only one person from AL went to the college last year. But it doesn't mean that only one person got in though. So, I think I would shoot for above 2150 to be more safe and competitive.

Chicago - Reach
Vanderbilt - Reach
Emory - Reach
Kenyon - Reach
Boston - Match
Georgia Tech - Match

how would raising my SAT to a 2100 or better change things.

Well, your GPA isn't anything special - most applicants to the universities in your Reach category will have close to a 4.0. Another thing that won't help you is your class rank being out of the top 10%. Those are two big factors counting against you.

A higher SAT would possibly make schools like Emory and Kenyon Matches. Chicago and Vanderbilt may be out of your league.

thanks. anyone else have some advice. i really need some
