Chances Please? (Int'l, High SAT, Low GPA, Decent ECs)

Hi all, I'm a long-time lurker and an occasional poster. I'm a senior this year and, as many of you are, I'm having trouble waiting til April to find out my RD results. So, chance me you would!

My RD schools are:
Claremont McKenna College (second choice after my ED school [rejected], I would appreciate a more detailed chance evaluation)
NYU Gallatin
Haverford College
Boston U
U of Miami
Loyola Marymount U
Syracuse U

Here are my stats:

Beijing, China
Male, Mixed Race (British Caucasian & Bangladeshi)

Full IB Diploma Curriculum (most rigorous at my school)
Higher Level English, History, Music
Standard Level Math, Chemistry, Spanish
Mandatory "Theory of Knowledge"
plus 150 hours mandatory "Creativity-Action-Service" hours

GPA:
9-10 = about 3.5 unweighted (between a B+/A- average at my school)
11-12 = 3.9 - 4.05 IB weighted (+0.5 for full IB)
School doesn't rank

SAT I:
Superscore = 2230 (800R, 670M, 750W)
Highest Single = 2180 (800R, 670M, 700W)

SAT II:
Literature = 780
Math I = 690

ECs:
+ Managing Editor of Newspaper
+ Features Editor of special Model United Nations Newspaper
+ Forensics/Public Speech, 3rd place for Impromptu and Debate at two international competitions
+ Photography - winner of school's High School Art award, sophomore year
+ Guitar - classical/electric, 2nd place at school talent show, sophomore year, Performing Arts letter

I'm one of the best writers in my school, and I'm guessing that quality is at the center of my 2 teacher recs (one of which is also from my debate and newspaper advisor), and I hope it comes out in my essays. My common app essay is about retaining idealism after a failed charity project.

I'm new to this - is there anything I'm missing? If not, thanks a ton for chancing me, I appreciate it a ton.

I would say try to raise your SAT score just a bit more into the 2200 range, your ec's are great

I will rank you on the colleges I am more familiar with,

BU - In
NYU - In

and I think you would be great for all these schools.

I would rank you for the other schools, but I do not know anything about them sorry!

best wishes!

I would think you would have a pretty good shot at CMC. You have a rising trend in grades, IB courses, scores and ecs look good. Essays will probably be the key. In at SU, LMU, BU, UM and most likely NYU. Haverford will be tougher. Good luck!

Thanks a lot, both of you. Open to more chances, if anyone's interested.

Sounds like I maybe should have applied to more reachy schools, it seems that I have a few too many safeties/low-midranges.

If there's any future chance-ers, feel free to recommend schools that I probably should have applied to, given my apparent school-style and stats. just so I know, in case I somehow discover time travel or even take a gap year and re-apply to places next year.

Claremont McKenna College (second choice after my ED school [rejected], I would appreciate a more detailed chance evaluation) – This one's a toughie. I'm betting it'll be a coin flip with a tad more weight for your side (i.e. 60/40 in your favor)
NYU Gallatin – 75/25 (i.e. most likely in)
Haverford College – 50/50 (i.e. coin flip)
Boston U – In
U of Miami – In
Loyola Marymount U – In
Syracuse U – In

what are you looking to be? what kind of college setting do you like? I would like more info on what your interested in so that I can mention more colleges to you. I deffinetly think that you can get into tougher schools.

I have a lot of colleges in mind, so just let me know exactly what your looking for.

I'm not entirely set on a major, but I indicated International Relations on most of my apps, and am considering getting an MBA afterwards to be some sort of.. international businessman? If I can find a profession that allows me to be creative, then that's even better.

As for college settings, I was INITIALLY apprehensive of a small LAC (hence my applying to places like U Miami and NYU), but I've started to think that maybe that is the right thing for me. That, or a larger college with a relaxed atmosphere even with rigorous academics.

Thanks smartafgkid, I appreciate it! Who knows, I might even send off some last-minute apps thanks to you, if any of them are due on the 15th. Let me know even if they were already due, though.
