Chances, please: Penn/Duke/Northwestern/WashU/Cal/Michigan

Caucasian female from CA

32 ACT (34E, 34M, 30R, 28S)
3.95 GPA UW; 4.2 GPA W; 3 APs (school offers 7); 4 Honors

Editor-in-Chief - school paper; Community Service Award (produced documentary about local issue); Founded club about local issue; Journalism Award; Outdoor Ed Award; Varsity Volleyball.

Legacy at Duke, Michigan and NU (grad school)

Unfortunately taking less than half of the school’s AP course load will probably not give you a rating of “most rigorous”. In addition, your ECs are mostly average, and I would definitely raise your ACT score, especially in reading and science.
Penn: mid to high reach; 25%, if serious, apply ED.
Duke: legacy + ED would give you a pretty high chance. Improve your ACT to 33-4 and it is a high match to low reach; ~50%
Northwestern: ED would give you a higher shot. I do not believe grad school counts as legacy. RD: low to mid reach, 35%
WashU: mid reach, 30%
Cal: high match, low reach; 45%
Michigan: I don’t know how much legacy helps at public schools. Match though. 60+%

michigan/cal i think definitely in.
duke might be a mid reach but the legacy could help you
northwestern, i don’t think the legacy will matter but i would say mid to low reach
penn is a high reach i think, ED at here or Duke would definitely boost your chances.
don’t know much about WashU, sorry
try to raise the ACT if you can, and maybe take some SAT 2s for those east coast schools.

I’d say improve your ACT to at least a 33 and take the rest of the APs offered at your school if you want a better chance at those schools. Legacy helps out, but only to a certain extent. Also, try to gain a few leadership positions in your EC’s.

Thanks for the advice. I am taking the most rigorous curriculum at my school and unfortunately can’t take any more APs because the others offered are in languages that I am not studying. I forgot to mention that I have started a business and have donated profits to the community organization that I work for. I will try to improve my ACTs and would appreciate more opinions.

ur in a prtty good position acutally

obvi penn and duke will be tough, but u havea decent shot

as for the rest, ur grades arereally good so i think ull get in

Probably not Penn or Duke without more APs. The others, match.
