Thank you so much!!
Most of the schools on your list are very high reaches. I am not familiar with Richmond, Lafayette, Wake so I can’t comment on them.
You definitely need some matches and safeties, and you need to consider the likely cost as well.
I think your stats are pretty good and ACT is decent. You may need to retake your SAT Subject II tests (at least 650, preferably 700+), otherwise I think they will hurt you. Also, your GPA seems a little on the low side, but since you said you go to a challenging school, then colleges should take that into account. IMO the very selective schools from your list are Dartmouth, Brown, and Georgetown. I think you should apply ED at one of those if they are your favorite.
Also, I don’t think you should put running on your college application since you’ve only done it for one year. It kind of seems like extra baggage, especially because you are already captain of hockey and have done both hockey and rowing for three years.
I’d appreciate it if you could chance me back! http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/2000649-chance-me-low-rank-common-ecs-cornell-harvard-wharton-etc.html#latest
If you are not planning to sign with any of these colleges for playing sports, then you have less than optimal chances at Dartmouth, Brown, Wash U, and Georgetown. Your GPA unfortunately is not the best, but hopefully some colleges will recognize the toughness of your school and will be more lenient. Your test scores are not the greatest either. 33 on the ACT is not bad, but with your GPA and ECs, you will want to raise it to at least 35 to be competitive. For subject tests, I would suggest you retake them or do not send the scores. I am not sure how much they will affect your admissions decision but scores in the 600s will not demonstrate your intellect in a certain area, like they would if the scores were 750+. Your ECs are pretty unique but not extraordinary; I like that you have excelled in 2 uncommon sports (hockey and rowing) and that you also participated in some neat charity and educational programs. Ultimately however, the volunteer-service-abroad-EC is all too common, so I would not bet on it really helping you in the admissions process, though it will definitely make for a good essay topic. As of now, you may want to apply ED to the schools that are most reach/out of reach for you which are Dartmouth, Brown, Wash U, and Georgetown. Good luck! update: for my school, my gpa is good, considering that the highest average in the entire school is a 93%
Hello,
I’d say you should be able to get into Richmond regular decision if what you say about GPA is true. I’d say maybe a waitlist on UVA.
