chances.....please

Hi all,

I am an International student, currently studying 12th Grade in a school which follows Indian curriculum CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education).

I just wanted to know what my chances are in getting admission for Mechanical Engineering.

I don’t have GPA grading in my school. The grading is purely based on marks obtained:
9th - 85%
10th - 90%
11th – 75%

I had also received a scholarship in grade 11 for academic excellence.

ACTIVITIES :
I have been selected to attend the Global Young Leaders’ Conference (GYLC) in Washington/New York this year.
Swimming
Singing
Made Robot for science exhibition which uses sensors to travel through a maze and then using LED’s to show the intensity of the light in its path.
Have made many presentations in Computer Science, Physics and Chemistry.
Helped the team in coming 3rd in an inter-school robot competition
Distinction in the Teri-Quiz (green Olympiad), which is an environment quiz.
Information Head in the school Anti-Smoking Committee.
I have been learning Indian Carnatic Music vocal for over 10 years and have given a 2 and half hour concert.
I have also been learning Carnatic Music violin for over 3 years and have recently won 3rd place in the Inter-House Talent contest held in my school.

SAT SCORES:
MATH - 730
CR – 600
W - 640

Going to give SAT II's in November. Will get above 750 in maths, physics and chemistry.

Teacher Recommendations and the guidance counselor recommendations are really good (infact excellent). Read all of them.

i dont know if it will help

my school does not rank, and the counselor has put me in the top 10% and also that i follow the most rigorous curriculum offered by the school

Hi. It seems you have alot of EC's...which is good..but being international definitely doesnt help in the mix.....I'd say still apply, everyone has the same chance.......applying RD might help b/c you would be competing against possibly less competitive people overall (since there are more)....ofcourse though, take anyone's advice w/ a grain of salt...

thanx for the reply...........am trying to get a good 12th grade mid-year report to compensate for the C in grade 11 Math

The maths teacher has mentioned in the recommendation that even though i got only a C in maths i have logical thinking and the aptitude to do well in the subject.

Anyone else....

I can't really say too much about your grades since they're on a non-American system, but otherwise, your ECs look pretty good, highlight the robots and music in your application if you get the chance. Your non-math SATs are towards the lower end of Rice's but that shouldn't be too big of an issue if you're applying as an engineering student.
