Hi,

I'm a Junior at a highly selective and competitive public high school in New Jersey. We have the top SAT average in the state and have been included in Newsweek's list of "The Public Elites". All courses are taught at or above the honors level and there is no class rank. I'm a caucasian male.

I will be doing a mentorship for half my senior at an environmental engineering services company.

SAT
I took the SAT in February and got 670/670/730 (10 essay). I used the Kaplan 2400 book, but only read the tips on writing. I'm retaking in March and trying to read the tips for the other sections, hoping to see similar gains.

SATII
May - Math II
June - Chemistry
October - Latin?

Extracuricculars
Yearbook - I got involved with yearbook in my sophomore year. The editors quickly realized my potential and I became editor-in-chief for my junior year. I will be in a similar position next year.
I've been involved in Key Club since Freshman year.
I have competed in the New Jersey Technology Student Association conferences since Sophomore year.
National Honor Society member.
I was involved in Model UN and Computer Club for one year.

Research
I have developed a passion for research. I began working with a mentor at a local university during my sophomore year. He is pretty well known in the field of environmental remediation. My research focuses on pollutants and natural methods of removing them from the environment. I intend to continue working with this mentor through my senior year.

I just attended the 2007 American Junior Academy of Science Meeting, which occurs in conjunction with the AAAS meeting, in San Francisco. Awards I have received include:

1st place in Microbiology, Local Science Fair, March 2006
3rd place special award, Chromatography Forum, April 2006
3rd place special award, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, April 2006
Naval Science Award, Office of Naval Research, US Navy, April 2006
1st place in Microbiology, Regional Science Fair, April 2006
1st place in Biology - Oral Presentation, New Jersey Junior Academy of Science, April 2006.
Attended AJAS/AAAS meeting, February 2007.

I did not get to ISEF last year, but I am trying for this year. I will be competing in a lot of the same competitions this year.

Volunteer
I volunteered at a local Catholic school's after school program for one year.

National Latin Exams
I received the distinction of Magna Cum Laude in my Freshman and Sophomore years. I will be taking the exam next month for my Junior year.

NCSSSMST
My school is a member of the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools in Mathematics, Science, and Technology. I was selected to attend the national student conference in Salt Lake City this year.

Through my research I have decided to pursue a career in Environmental Engineering. My schools of interest include:

JHU, Cornell, Olin, Cooper Union, Princeton, Columbia, Lehigh, Rutgers, Drexel, UIUC, VTech, Duke, CMU, Penn State.

My top choice, I think, is JHU. I'd be very appreciative if you could provide approximate chances at these schools. I'd also be open to suggestions of other schools in the field. Thanks.
