chances please?

I'm a white female junior from VA... pretty competitive school, though only a couple that I know of have gone to Ivies (at least 1 to Yale and 1 to Brown in the past 2 years) and only 2 to Duke in recent memory (both on athletic scholarships). Most of the top kids end up at UVA as Echols.

SAT I: 1540/2310 (760 CR, 780 M, 770 W)
SAT II: Taking US History and Math II in June

GPA: 3.95 UW/4.7-8ish W (both should go up w/ 2nd semester grades)
Rank: 2/350ish (not sure if this will change... I may be 1 by the end of senior year but that won't matter when I'm applying-- I don't think this will drop though)

ECs: XC, indoor/outdoor track (running takes up most of my time... it's my true passion, but unfortunately i'm not fast enough to run in college, esp. at Duke!). I do have NHS (President), Mu Alpha Theta (VP), Latin Club and Honor Society, and I volunteer in a community program that teaches Latin to elementary/middle school kids. I'm also on my school's honor court, which is a pretty prestigious thing.

I've won a ton of awards in Latin (essay contests/other contests and stuff like that), and I've won awards for other things which I don't want to name because of identifying info.

Courseload: all honors/APs (except for PE and the few unweighted classes they made me take, like my first year of Latin)

APs: 10th grade- World History (5); 11th grade- English Language (4-5?), Psychology (5?), US History (4?), Statistics (4-5?); 12th grade- English Literature, Latin Literature, Environmental, Government, Calc AB

My recs should be very good. Both teachers know me very well outside of the classroom settings, and because I've known them both for several years, they are very familiar with my goals&aspirations. I've done very well in both of the classes. One of them is completely in love with Duke like me so I'm hoping that rec will be amazing!

I'm definitely applying ED. I'm a legacy, but my dad only gives about $100/year. I want to major in Political Science/Government, but I also want a minor or something like that in Psychology.

Thanks for taking the time to read this... I think I covered everything, but if I left something out, just tell me! Please let me know what you think my chances are and what I can do to improve them!

U will get in!

maybe, but it seems like you have a goodshot

I'd say you are definitely in ED, if you think Duke is your first choice, I would definitely recommend applying Early.

Your grades, scores, and EC's definitely put you in the running.. being a legacy also gives you a nice boost.

Good luck next year!

No way will she get in. She only has top scores, top grades, good ECs,good recs, and is a legacy. You better apply to VCU because Duke is a REACH.

My advice on ways to improve your chances is to find a way to solve global warming (I don't trust Al Gore).

I'd say if you ED you have a really really good shot at getting in. GPA, rank, test scores are all great, but you have to make sure to really emphasize the ECs (esp. the Latin). Good luck!!

thanks for the all responses... you guys helped a lot!
