CMU's gotten more selective the past couple years. Here are some updated numbers from the class entering this week:

IS acceptance rate 21.5%
Tepper 13.9%
SCS 18.7%
MCS 34.7%

I would consider Tepper and SCS as reaches. Tepper like lots of top B schools has been flooded with applications. SCS applicant pool is probably the strongest at CMU. Your SAT of 1400 is excellent, enough to be in the running anywhere, but then again it's 70 or 80 points below SCS average, so I can't think it's a sure thing as has been said. IS is easier to get into, and the program itself is one of the best but doesn't have the intensity of CS (my son was a double IS/CS major). I agree with KK...for CMU you'd do best to identify your strengths and interests and apply accordingly. You sound like more of a CS, or IS person, or MCS than Tepper. And they are all very different.

Thanks for the feedback! How hard is it to double major? I was wondering if I could do IS plus something else. SCS is very difficult to get into, so I'm not sure what else would be a good option, since there isn't so much overlap if I choose another major.

Any idea how hard it is to do an internal transfer? If I went from MCS to CIT or something like that, would it be hard to do so?

^ Anyone know the answer to that question? =/
