I've heard that they look heavily at the essay, does anyone have an opinion on this?

You have a fine chance, with the scores and rank. If your essay expresses your passionate goals and they need your uniqueness for the class, you have a very decent chance. What geographical area are you coming from? (You must look at your chances compared to those around you. Legacies and athletes are also in contention.)

typical asian female.
high scores, great grades, but typical ECs...(piano, volunteering, tennis, and other meaningless clubs)
By those stats alone, you're going to get rejected bc there are so many high quality applicants....especially asians. USA is about 4% asian where as harvard is more than 5 times that.

With that said, admissions are based on your ability to define yourself from the applicant pool, and very very very few kids do that by their ECs, awards, and grades.

You're definitely in the running for being admitted with your grades, test scores, and achievements; unfortunately, there is still a bit of luck involved. What are you truly passionate about? Is there something personal to you that you could pursue that is unique and praiseworthy? Academic awards and high SAT scores are a given in the Harvard academic pool. Just make sure your application goes beyond that. Good luck!!!

SAT chemistry 800

Currently doing internship at a local university cancer research institute.

National Merit commended

AP scholar with distinction

And I'm from TX

All the new info is pretty standard in the Harvard pool, other than the internship. That's not so uncommon either, so it all depends on how well you can communicate depth and passion in that or some other area. So focus on that.

i'd say you have a good chance. don't listen to people that say you'll get rejected just because you're a female asian with good scores. that's bull. apply and see what happens. just make sure you portray something you're passionate about.

Thanks token89 for the encouragement.
