Hi ohcollege1102!

I'm happy to chance you ... so here it goes:

You have obviously done very well in HS, with a 4.0 UW. What makes this even better is that you have taken 3 APs so far - you have challenged yourself in HS. A total of 8 APs is just about average for the top schools you're applying to, so it's no eye-opener but it's also nothing to scoff at. (The record number I've seen so far here on CC is 17.) Your ACT of 34 is really good and places you in the Top 1% in the US. I really don't think that you need to take the SAT. You have done well enough on the ACT - save your money! Your ECs are pretty good, and you demonstrate leadership in them. However, it's not the breadth of ECs that counts - it's how much you enjoy doing them. If engineering is one of your passions, go ahead and write about it. Talking about engineering, I'm not really sure why you would apply to Harvard if you want to go into engineering. Harvard isn't particularly known for engineering - the big ones are MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, and Michigan. Make sure that the colleges you're applying to have strong engineering programs.

Now on to your awards. You have completed your Honors list incorrectly. In most colleges point of view, they see NHS as a club, not an honors/award. An honor that you may have recieved maybe, say, the National Merit Semifinalist, which would be a national one, or maybe you won the Intel STS or Seimens competitions (those would be a few more national ones). Regional or state awards would be, for example, any awards that you've won on varsity Tennis. When you do the Common App, make sure you understand this part.

Discounting the honors societies, your honors are not your golden part of your application; however, not having any national awards or honors does not spell disaster for college admisisons.

Overall, you're pretty much the typical high-performing student in high school. You've done very well; however I don't really see much that could separate you from the rest of the crowd. It's okay! Don't panic -- you can always make yourself stand out on your essays.

Chances:
WUSTL: Match (Far reach for scholarships -- there are alot more applicants who are more qualified than you are)
UPenn: Slight reach
Rice: Match
Dartmouth: Reach
Duke: Match
UNC: Safety match
UVA: Safety match
Case Western: Safety match
Georgia Tech: Safety (PSP: Reach)
Harvard: Reach (It is for everyone!)

Good luck--if you have any questions, go ahead and PM me.
